INTEREST RATES AND CURRENCIES: The market chews on the employment report - Evli’s chief strategist: “On the weaker side, but not as weak as the market feared” - The Observatorial
The US Department of Labor released its expected August employment report on Friday, which did not paint the clearest possible picture of the state of the economy. About 45 minutes after the report was released, the US two-year bond market rate was down 3.9 basis points at 3.704 percent. The ten-year-old was looking for his direction. The dollar did the same in the foreign exchange market. The stock market futures still showed a bearish opening on Wall Street during the day.

Will UK inflation hit the Bank of England's 2% target this spring?
By Michael Brown, Senior Research Strategist, Pepperstone Financial markets were given a series of jolts last week, as volatility ratcheted higher once more, as participants digested another hotter-than-expected US CPI report, while also grappled with mounting geopolitical risks, and much else besides. Ultimately, though, a dash for havens proved the dominant theme, with the dollar notching its best week since September ‘22, stocks slipping once more, and gold rallying to fresh record highs.
Equity dynamics suggesting further tailwinds and more gains
By Michael Brown, Senior Research Strategist, Pepperstone. In the equity space, one of the most notable features of this cycle has been the degree of consternation over narrow market breadth. In other words, the gains that we have seen, especially those that were made in 2023, came due to a substantial rally in a small number of index constituents – a group that we now all know as the ‘magnificent seven’.

Northleaf Buys Into U.S. Open-Access Fiber
|
Northleaf Capital Partners Ltd.‘s pledge to invest up to $500 million in Tillman FiberCo LLC fits an ongoing trend in telecom. Private equity and infrastructure investors have eagerly backed companies that spool fiber to homes and businesses as remote work, streaming, artificial intelligence and other applications drive demand for high-speed broadband. In another respect, Tillman FiberCo breaks with fiber-market tradition, in the U.S. at least.

#1. Lack of Knowledge About Cryptocurrency Some people invest in cryptocurrency without having done any up-front research. This is a poor decision regardless of the asset class. It is common to believe that crypto is a get-rich-quick scheme, leading some to jump into complex cryptocurrency exchanges and DeFi platforms. Review: Picturing the First Financial Crash
The 18th century prints teem with figures realistic, satirical and mythological. Crowds fight over papers floating down from above. Of course, oil M&A still wasn’t booming like the 2010s, and we notched very little exits in the space for PE, especially in the middle market.
