The count is over in Farrer, and David Farley can soon be sworn in

The electoral commission has now finalised the distribution of preferences in Farrer, allowing it to formally declare One Nation's David Farley the winner. That will happen in Albury on Thursday morning, with the writ to be returned to Speaker Milton Dick by Friday, allowing Farley to be sworn in and take his seat in parliament. In the next few weeks we should get more detailed data from the AEC that tells us more about preference flows, including at each polling place.

Labor's Luke Richmond on track to win by-election in Brisbane seat of Stafford

Labor is likely to retain the Queensland state electorate of Stafford, in Brisbane's northern suburbs. At the end of counting on Saturday night, there has been a 4.1 per cent swing against Labor after preferences, with additional postal votes still to be counted. For the LNP to win from here, those postal votes would need to break very strongly in the LNP's favour. That is very unlikely to happen.

How independent Tracee Hutchison overtook One Nation to finish second in the Nepean by-election

The Victorian Electoral Commission has today finalised the count in the by-election for Nepean, on the Mornington Peninsula. It confirms Anthony Marsh's final margin of victory at 13.2 per cent, a 6.9 per cent swing toward the Liberal Party. Final figures are available at the ABC News website. While it was obvious on election night that Marsh had won the seat, it was slightly less clear who had come second.
