KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Gulf is “open for business” and this next weather system will bring copious amounts of moisture northward into East Tennessee and Southeast Kentucky. Winds will become breezy Friday as a cold front settles into the region, bringing scattered showers with periods of moderate to heavy rainfall. This first round of rain will be the “primer” and only minor and isolated instances of standing water or flooding are possible.

Heat Alerts From the Gulf Coast to Upper Midwest

The heat has been non-stop all summer and no relief is coming soon! Heat alerts are in place from the Gulf Coast to the Upper Midwest (above). A ridge of high pressure is expanding to the north and east, coming out of the Four Corners, and bringing the extreme heat with it. Heat alerts in the Plains continue through THURSDAY. Friday was another day of record setting highs in Texas. Wichita Falls reached 111°, beating out the old record.
