Materials used for enriching radioactive cesium isotopes from seawater
Abstract Radiocesium, particularly 134Cs and 137Cs, is among the most extensively studied anthropogenic radionuclides in the marine environment. Their dispersal in seawater and entry into marine food webs make them relevant to marine radioecology and the tracing of nuclear releases.
Effects of Injection Mass and Pressure on Combustion Characteristic and Pressure Oscillation of PCCI Engine
This study employs an optical diesel engine with a synchronized imaging system to investigate the effects of injection mass (26/39.6 mg) and injection pressure (60/160 MPa) on flame evolution and high-frequency pressure oscillation during PCCI combustion, with the engine operating at a constant speed of 1000 rpm. The results show that both injection mass and injection pressure significantly affect ignition delay time, flame morphology, and oscillation intensity.

Capillary Leidenfrost effect - Nature Physics
Abstract The Leidenfrost effect, best known as the formation of an insulating vapour layer beneath a liquid droplet that delays boiling, offers great potential for droplet manipulation and drag reduction. However, regulating the conventional Leidenfrost effect remains challenging due to the complex liquid dynamics involved. Here we report a behaviour that we term the capillary Leidenfrost effect, which enables stable and sustained solid levitation driven by liquid evaporation.
Misbehaviour dominates GHG emissions from food loss and waste
Abstract Food loss and waste (FLW) generates ~19% of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, yet its determinants and mitigation potential remain insufficiently understood. To address this, we develop a mechanistic framework that disaggregates FLW emissions into those driven by techno-economic constraints, surplus production and mis-consumption, with the latter two constituting misbehaviour-driven emissions.
Signet-ring cell carcinoma of the appendix presenting as diffuse uterine involvement: a case report and literature review
Abstract Background: Appendiceal signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) is rarely encountered, and presentation with diffuse uterine involvement as the initial manifestation has not been systematically reported, posing significant risk of misdiagnosis as primary uterine malignancy. Case presentation: A 45-year-old woman presented with vaginal bleeding for 4 months. Preoperative CT demonstrated diffuse uterine myometrial thickening and appendiceal wall thickening.
The economic costs of award revocation: evidence from the National Civilized City Award campaign
ABSTRACT Despite the prevalence of revocation policies for various awards, their effects are rarely measured. This paper examines the impact of award revocation on local economic performance by exploiting the revocation of China’s National Civilized City Awards (NCCA). Using a difference-in-differences design, we compare changes in GDP per capita between cities whose NCCA was revoked and those that retained the award.
The forest carbon paradox: novel insights into China’s forest-economy-emissions relationships - npj Climate Action
Abstract Forest-climate-economy relationships present critical challenges for climate mitigation in rapidly developing economies. While forests are traditionally viewed as carbon sinks, their effectiveness as tradable carbon products remains difficult to quantify in the near term due to time lags and scale mismatch with energy-driven emissions dynamics. This study examines these relationships in China using data from 30 provinces (from 2000 to 2019).

Bioprocess development and scale-up for cis,cis-muconic acid production from glucose and xylose by Pseudomonas putida
Bioprocess development and scale-up for cis,cis-muconic acid production from glucose and xylose by Pseudomonas putida cis,cis-Muconic acid (MA) is a bio-based chemical that can be converted to direct replacement chemicals or performance-advantaged bioproducts. We recently engineered the bacterium Pseudomonas putida KT2440 for the co-utilization of glucose and xylose to produce MA.
A bifunctional antibody conjugate marks the location of DNA binding proteins on deproteinized DNA fibers.
Abstract Immunofluorescent foci of DNA Damage Response (DDR) proteins serve as surrogates for DNA damage and are frequently interpreted as denoting specific lesions. For example, Double Strand Breaks (DSBs) are potent inducers of the DDR, whose best-known factor is the phosphorylated histone variant H2AX (γ-H2AX). The association with DSBs is so well established that the reverse interpretation- that γ-H2AX invariably implies DSBs- is routine.

Natural polysaccharides exert anti-tumor effects as dendritic cell immune enhancers
1 Introduction Tumor is one of the major health threats to human health and life worldwide. Previous treatments for tumor such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, all directly target the tumor itself, which can cause damage to normal cells of the body while playing a therapeutic role (1). In recent years, tumor immunotherapy has emerged as a frontier in the clinical treatment of tumors by enhancing the activity of the body’s immune system to kill tumor cells (2).
From bench to bedside, 2-in-1 design expedites phase 2/3 oncology drug development
By some accounts (1), it takes five oncology drugs an average of 6 to 7 years in clinical trials to yield one FDA approval, and behind it are 250 preclinical candidates out of 5,000–10,000 pre-discovery compounds. There are primarily three phases in oncology drug development, phase 1 for dose-finding, randomized-controlled phase 2 for clinical proof-of-concept of efficacy, and randomized-controlled phase 3 for confirmation of clinical benefits.
Machine learning-based identification of glycosyltransferase-related mRNAs for improving outcomes and the anti-tumor therapeutic response of gliomas
Introduction Glioma is the most frequently occurring type of brain cancer, and its most aggressive pathological form is known as brain glioblastoma (Louis et al., 2021). Gliomas have significant heterogeneity, and recent research has reported the tools for further classification of gliomas (Carlson et al., 2021; Rui et al., 2023). In clinical interventions, despite receiving the most aggressive treatments, glioblastoma patients’ median overall survival (OS) of less than 1.5 years is disheartening.
Reversible phosphorylation of WOX5 protein controls the homeostasis of QC
Abstract Fundamental questions of structural and functional homeostasis of QC in root stem cell niche of Arabidopsis remain elusive. As a QC marker, how the homeostasis of WOX5 protein regulated by post-translational modification remains unknown. Here, we characterize the role of a PEST domain in WOX5 protein, which stabilizes WOX5 protein by phosphorylated of GSK3 Motifs (GMs).
