Interview
How is social media changing news?
It's keeping us on our toes. Instead of just trying to make it to the scene first, we're trying to make it to the scene, get the best shot for Facebook live and get the story posted to the web before the competition.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Bridget Jones
Why did you become a journalist?
In first grade I won an award for "Asking and thinking of good questions". This may have been a passive-aggressive dig from an exhausted teacher but I enjoy the memory. I love reporting because it gives me a chance to ask questions and become an expert on something new every day.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
You're going to get ulcers and feel like you're about to be fired every day for the first six months. It's worth it.
What's your favorite drink?
A root beer float from A&W. It should be in a frosted mug fresh from the freezer: nothing else will do.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In my garden or on the floor of my living room arguing with one of my cats.
