Two University of Mississippi students died Sept. 21 in separate incidents, prompting an investigation into what happened and renewed concerns about emerging drugs circulating among young people. Investigators have found a product called Smax Pseudo-DHM at both locations, according to recently released court documents. The documents describe the product as a kratom-like or synthetic kratom product, and investigators say both students had purchased it.

The parent of a toddler at a Michigan daycare was arrested after the child was found with a loaded gun in a holster, police said. Canton Police said officers quickly secured the weapon. No one was injured. Police Chief Joseph Bialy praised daycare staff for their response after surveillance video showed the firearm had entered the building in the child’s backpack. “I’ve watched the video. New England Patriots tight end Eli Raridon and his wife, Anna, announced that their newborn son, Peter James Raridon, died after a fatal birth defect diagnosis. Missouri GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt is getting backlash after he appeared to try to say that special counsel Jack Smith was at a basketball game and mixed up two teams. When Smith was being questioned at a hearing earlier this week, Schmitt asked him if he went to a NBA game in 2024 in Atlanta where the Golden State Warriors faced the Hawks. Smith denied going to the game and Schmitt responded by saying, “I don’t think you know that we have this stuff.

A man died late Tuesday night after he was hit by a train in the Kelso area, police officials said. The crash was reported at about 9:15 p.m. in the 1100 block of Wood Avene, where a northbound BNSF train hit a pedestrian on the tracks. Kelso Police officers and medical first responders with Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue went out to the area and found a man deceased on an embankment on the east side of the tracks.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office released new video of deputies using their grappler system to stop a fleeing driver earlier this week. The incident started Monday afternoon when law enforcement responded to an incident at a home in the Orchards area, where the suspect – 48-year-old Aaron Hetland - allegedly damaged some property at the home he shared with his mother.
