Colin is a retired Army lieutenant colonel with decades of experience managing people, resources and missions in sensitive positions throughout the Defense Intelligence Enterprise and elsewhere. He has extensive exposure to the inter-agency community, including an assignment as an accredited diplomat at the US Embassy in Baghdad. He spent a total of 52 months in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Supreme Court’s decision to end key parts of the Voting Rights Act was an emotional blow to many Americans who are committed to civil rights. The decision had an immediate effect in Maryland, causing Senate President Bill Ferguson to shift his stance on partisan redistricting. This takes Maryland one step closer to becoming part of the problem instead of pointing toward a solution.

President Donald Trump visited China with hopes of securing new orders for American products and obtaining Chinese help to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He made limited progress on the first goal but obtained no explicit commitment from China to help with Hormuz. Talking with adversaries is almost always the right approach, and Trump was right to engage with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Given the outcome, however, the president should recalibrate his approach.
