(WDRB) — As families prepare to celebrate Independence Day this weekend with fireworks, a southern Indiana man who lost his eye to a bottle rocket two years ago is hoping to prevent someone else from suffering a similar injury. Jerald Hess said what started as a last-minute decision to buy fireworks turned into a life-changing accident July 4, 2025. He was using a plumber's torch to light bottle rockets outside his Corydon home when one unexpectedly struck him in the face.

(WDRB) — Neighbors in Mount Washington watched as water rushed through their neighborhoods over the weekend from widespread flash flooding that prompted a state of emergency in Kentucky. Having been hit with weather whiplash across the area this month, some of those neighbors said this is happening far too often. Karen Huff believes the problem nearly surrounds her house: a drainage ditch.

Shawnee Park basketball court sees continued Dirt Bowl upgrades after it was vandalized last year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — After the Shawnee Park basketball court was damaged ahead of the Dirt Bowl last year, several upgrades have been made as the city tries to prevent it from happening again. Ahead of last year's annual summer event, vandals damaged the court. Surveillance video showed a black Dodge Challenger doing burnouts on the playing surface early one morning. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that morning, according to police.
