Combined reinforcement mechanism of TEOS-barium oxalate-phosphate composite on weathered sandstone
Abstract Sandstone is one of the main rock types constituting stone-based heritage objects. Due to long-term outdoor exposure, sandstone typically exhibits deterioration such as weathering, surface powdering, and structural weakening. To address these issues, this study developed a reinforcement material composed of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), barium hydroxide, and oxalic-phosphoric acid.
Prognostic value of 48-h reassessment of a laboratory-derived frailty index in ICU patients with sepsis: model development in MIMIC-IV and external transport evaluation
Abstract Background: Static laboratory-derived frailty index (FI-lab) measures have been associated with adverse outcomes in sepsis, but the value of reassessing acute multisystem laboratory abnormality burden after initial resuscitation and transporting a prespecified model to a new clinical setting remains uncertain.
An exploratory study on the influence of 60 Co irradiation on the volatile organic components and antibacterial activity of Artemisia argyi Folium
Abstract Background/Objectives: Artemisia argyi Folium, renowned as the “king of herbs” and one of the oldest medicinal plants in China, is popular worldwide. However, it is highly susceptible to contamination by bacteria, molds, and insect eggs during harvesting, drying, and processing. 60Co irradiation is currently applied as an effective method.
A fully integrated sample-to-answer diagnostic platform enables rapid quantification of post-transplant infection at the point-of-care
Abstract Opportunistic infections after organ transplantation require frequent monitoring over years. However, current diagnostic tests are inaccessible to patients in resource-limited settings. Here, we present a microfluidic-enhanced nucleic acid test for on-site reporting (MONITOR), a fully integrated, sample-in-answer-out platform for point-of-care (POC) detection of opportunistic infections.
Language experiences, evaluations and emotions: multilingual identity construction amongst Chinese ethnic minority undergraduates
ABSTRACT Chinese ethnic minority undergraduates are often engaged in at least three languages. Understanding their multilingual identity is of significance to the educational balance and social stability in Chinese society. Furthermore, it provides empirical evidence and comparative insights for other multilingual societies that face similar tensions between national common language, ethnic language and English, thus promoting global discussion on language policy.
Glycolytic enolase 1-induced H4K12 lactylation activates quiescent breast cancer stem-like cells in triple-negative breast cancer
Abstract Activation of quiescent or extremely slow-cycling breast cancer stem-like cells (qsBCSCs) contributes to tumor progression, yet the regulatory mechanisms involved in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remain elusive. We developed a dual-reporter system combining NANOG-EGFP and H2B-mCherry pulse-chase labeling to separately identify qsBCSCs and active BCSCs (aBCSCs) in vitro and in vivo.
When to initiate immunomodulatory therapy in sepsis
Abstract Immunomodulatory therapy in sepsis has long failed to deliver consistent clinical benefit, in part because the heterogeneity of host responses and the dynamic nature of disease trajectories have been underestimated.
Published on Jul 23 · Submitted by zhongyuan peng on Jul 23 Abstract The recent emergence of vibe-coding workflows is changing what coding agents are expected to do. Instead of merely completing code under fully specified instructions, agents are increasingly expected to transform incomplete product intent into working software by combining various abilities including planning, requirement clarification, tool use, debugging, and repository-level construction.

MYDGF promotes pathological and physiological retinal angiogenesis via the Gαi1/3-Gab1-Akt-mTOR signaling
Abstract Retinal neovascularization (RNV) is a potential vision-threatening process characterized by the abnormal growth of retinal vessels. Despite its clinical prevalence, the precise mechanisms governing RNV initiation and progression remain incompletely defined. Here we identify myeloid-derived growth factor (MYDGF) as a critical regulator of retinal vascular dynamics.
METTL3 loss exacerbates colitis via m 6 A-dependent Slc39a8 regulation and epithelial lineage depletion
Abstract The intestinal epithelium maintains host-microbiota homeostasis, while inflammatory conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), induce pathological shifts in intestinal epithelial cell (IEC) subtypes. We unveil METTL3, an RNA m6A methyltransferase, as a pivotal regulator of this balance. METTL3 is enriched in intestinal stem cells and transit-amplifying cells (TACs), and upregulated in patients with IBD and a mouse model of IBD.

Strand-asymmetric G-runs and G4s downstream of TSS modulate tumor suppressor gene transcription
Abstract A genome sequence is not made up of random nucleotides. Instead, it has distinctive features for evolutionary adaptation. Herein, we identified a higher frequency of continuous guanines (G-runs) located downstream of the transcription start site (TSS) in the non-template strand than that of the template strand by analyzing the genomic region around TSS (TSS ± 1 kb) across different species. G-runs are known to have the propensity to form G-quadruplex structures (G4).

The key role of nanoparticle concentration gradient in aerosol initial growth - Nature Communications
|
Abstract New particle formation has been estimated to produce more than half of the global cloud condensation nuclei and profoundly impacts clouds, climate, and air quality. The initial growth from the cluster size ( ~ 1 nm) to a few nanometers, for which the underlying mechanisms can be very different from the subsequent growth, is the most critical stage for new particles to become climate-relevant.

Erk1/2 Orchestrates SSPH I‐Induced Oxidative Stress, Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Ferroptosis in Hepatocellular Carcinoma
1 Introduction Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death factors worldwide, with its mortality rate continuing to rise [1]. The MAPK/ERK signalling pathway not only plays a pivotal role in HCC carcinogenesis, progression and treatment but is also a target of first-line therapies such as Sorafenib and Lenvatinib [2]. Constitutively activated Erk1/2 is frequently observed in HCC patients and correlates with poor prognosis [3, 4].
Monocyte single cell-type gene expression measured in peripheral blood by DIRECT LS-TA method: the ratio-based biomarkers of (IFI27/PSAP) showed superior performance than interferon score in triage patients with viral infection
Abstract A rapid method to triage febrile patients into different categories of etiologies remains a significant challenge even nowadays, when many molecular tests for pathogens are available. Routine serum protein tests like C-reactive protein and procalcitonin have limited specificity. Host response gene signatures are promising biomarkers but they usually require assaying many genes, e.g. 7 genes are commonly used to calculate the interferon (IFN) score.

Research design and methods We retrieved AEs data from FAERS database (2004-2023) focusing on the combination of four triazoles (fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole) with vincristine.
Heat shock transcription factor-mediated thermal tolerance and cell size plasticity in marine diatoms - Nature Communications
Abstract Diatoms are a crucial component of marine ecosystems, recognized for their broad environmental adaptability and wide temperature tolerance. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying their adaptability to diverse temperatures are unknown. In this study, we discover that heat shock transcription factors (HSFs) are potentially important for thermal tolerance in diatoms. Our study focuses on PtHSF2, annotated as HSF2 in Phaeodactylum tricornutum’s genome, which is ubiquitous in diatoms.
