BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — The Honor Flight Network sent off local Vietnam War veterans Friday on an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. to honor their service. The veterans, 28 in total, left Friday from American Veterans Post 70, beginning their trip to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the nation’s capital. The trip serves to recognize and honor the veterans in a way they may not have experienced when returning home.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) — A local infectious diseases physician with Novant Health spoke to WSAV Thursday about the hantavirus, what it is and if it could become a much larger issue. Two people in Georgia and one in North Carolina are reported to have been exposed to the virus. There has been concern from many people about a larger spread.

BURTON, S.C. (WSAV) – On Thursday evening, a local man was recognized for rescuing a trapped occupant from a burning vehicle that had collided with a tree. The Burton Fire District presented Travis Hollingsworth III with the Burton Fire District Immediate Responder Life Saving Award in front of firefighters and the man’s family. On March 13th, just after midnight, Travis was at his home when he heard a vehicle collision in the area of Trask Parkway and Parker Drive.
