Maitland house fire sends smoke miles away after explosion on Avonwood Court

Firefighters and sheriff's deputies responded to a house fire on Avonwood Court in Maitland Tuesday afternoon, where neighbors reported hearing an explosion and seeing heavy smoke visible from miles away near Forest City Boulevard and State Road 414. The fire, which has since been extinguished, prompted a large emergency response, including power crews addressing a downed line. Neighbors said an elderly couple lives in the house, but was not home at the time.

Organization says Lake County cities are pulling back on honoring Pride

Lake County Pride proclamations are sparking controversy between those who support Pride recognition and others who think officials should stay out of it.Leesburg was all set to issue a Pride proclamation at their first meeting this June, but the commission chose not to put it on the agenda.This comes after a similar debate in Lady Lake, where the proclamation was passed, but not without controversy over reading the proclamation and the drafting of the proclamation.
