Early immune events during SARS-CoV-2 infection impact memory T and B cell responses
|
Abstract Immune responses elicited by natural infection of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) show significant heterogeneity in the magnitude and quality of memory T and B cell responses. However, little is known about the contributing factors. In this study, we investigated the early immune factors that contribute to this variability using RNA-seq, targeted proteomics, and flow cytometry analyses.

Roads Built for Carriages: How the Four-Year Degree Will Outlast Its Critics
Last month, I attended Georgia Tech’s 2026 Spring Symposium—”Skilling, Upskilling, and Reskilling in the Age of AI.” In one of the talks, a speaker drew an analogy back several decades to the transition from horse-drawn carriages to automobiles. The speaker noted—correctly, in my opinion—that although some of the early automobiles were likely weaker than the horse-drawn carriages they were replacing, everyone could see the potential.
Opinion: Opioid Funds Driving Real Change
Your local governments are currently spending $36 million to fight the opioid crisis, and it’s not coming out of your local tax bill. Since we began deploying this money, overdose deaths have begun to decline. What prevention and treatment can we now offer, and how did we get the resources to do it?
Digital Education as a Third Place
In his book The Great Good Place, Ray Oldenburg coined the idea of a “third place”: an informal public gathering spot—”cafes, coffee shops, bookstores, bars, hair salons” are the examples he uses in the subtitle of his book—where people form communities. The first two “places,” by contrast, are home and work. A lot of research in recent years has focused on the decline of third places, a phenomenon accelerated by COVID-19.
Education's Hidden Value: What We Lose When AI Individualizes Learning — Class Central
I teach some very big classes. Students come from around the world, working for nearly every big software company as well as numerous other industries. Some work at universities. Some work in the public sector. Some work for non-profits. When they register for classes, they join a community of classmates with a common goal: learn that class’s material and earn a good grade.
The Babel fish is almost here—is education ready? — Class Central
In Fall 2020, we started to offer one of my online classes to students studying in-person at the Georgia Tech campus in Shenzhen. The timing had nothing to do with COVID—this had been in the works for a year. The goal was to let the size and accessibility of our online MSCS program help a local program get started.
AI Avatars in Education: The Transparency We Can't Afford to Lose — Class Central
About a month ago, I released a course on edX titled Foundations of Generative AI. One of the gimmicks of the course is that the majority of the course content is presented with my AI avatar (or “digital twin”): a recorded version of me uploaded to Heygen, which then redubs the lips of the video to match whatever text I put into it. Because of this technology, I was able to produce 100% of the video content on my own instead of working with a team.
Why some people have adopted 'AI veganism' in the wake of emerging tech
New technologies usually follow the technology adoption life cycle. Innovators and early adopters rush to embrace new technologies, while laggards and skeptics jump in much later. At first glance, it looks like artificial intelligence is following the same pattern, but a new crop of studies suggests that AI might follow a different course — one with significant implications for business, education, and society.

Indian stocks see record monthly foreign outflows as China takes spotlight
China's blue-chip index fell about 14% from its peak recorded on Oct. The outflows were also triggered by the lacklustre September-quarter earnings of marquee large-caps, such as IT bellwether TCS and billionaire Mukesh Ambani's oil-focussed conglomerate Reliance Industries. Since China's stimulus announcement, the benchmark Nifty 50 has shed 5%, logging losses in eleven of fifteen sessions.

It’s time for facts in the PBM debate Original

Despite what you’ve read here and elsewhere, we exist to make prescription drugs more affordable.

3 Ways to Alleviate Tech Pain Points for Faculty
Over the past year, universities have had to navigate a complex and ever-evolving patchwork of concerns — from national and local mandates to university system policies and public health guidelines. Universities are large, intricate organizations. Navigating such massive enterprises through rapidly changing circumstances is much like entering a cruise ship into an Olympic sailing competition. At the core of the challenge, however, has been the question of who will be present in the classroom.
Two Stances, Three Genres, and Four Intractable Dilemmas for the Future of Learning at Scale
ABSTRACT The late 2000s and 2010s saw the full arc of a dramatic hype cycle in learning at scale, where charismatic technologists made bold and ultimately unfounded predictions about how technologies would disrupt schooling systems. Looking toward the 2020s, a more productive approach to learning at scale is the tinkerer's stance, one that emphasizes incremental improvements on the long history of learning at scale.
Affordable Degrees at Scale
ABSTRACT Following the initial proliferation of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), a more recent trend has emerged toward offering "Affordable Degrees at Scale" or "Large, Internet-Mediated Asynchronous Degrees". In this research, we set out to understand this space: the range in tuition costs for these programs, the variety of admissions standards, and the types of assessments used to evaluate these non-traditional students.

Joyner: My 4-year journey with women's hockey pioneers
ANDOVER — It was a sunny Saturday afternoon in early fall 2015 when my daughter Annabelle, then 7, and I went to a cookout at the small Catholic college up the street from our house. The picnic was for Merrimack College hockey season ticket holders. I did not attend Merrimack. I’m not Catholic. Where I grew up in Georgia, ice hockey was most widely experienced as a video game.
A day to thank these hockey pioneers
It was a sunny Saturday afternoon in early fall 2015 when my daughter Annabelle and I were at a Merrimack College cookout, chatting up a group of freshmen as green as the grass we were sitting on. Annabelle was 7. We were at a mixer for Merrimack hockey season ticket holders, invited there because my wife and I had bought tickets to all of the games on the schedule of the brand-new women’s team. Annabelle and I were in a clear minority at the picnic.
