OPINION EXCHANGE | Black History Month: What's a white guy to do? To put it simply, more.
Opinion editor's note: Star Tribune Opinion publishes a mix of national and local commentaries online and in print each day. To contribute, click here. ••• In early February, I went on my annual ski/snowboard trip. From great friends to fresh powder to bougie après-skis, nothing was missing. Well, except one thing. People of color. As an avid snowboarder who's been at it for more than 40 years, it's not like I haven't noticed this before. However, I really found myself thinking about it.

Book Summary: Gen Z At Work
Until now we may have thought about Gen Z as consumers, and know how to sell toys and tech for teenagers. However, we have not thought about them as employees and what it will take to recruit, retain, manage, or motivate them. We have concentrated on earlier generations. Baby Boomers who are now retiring and whose knowledge we need to retain. Millennials who are now graduated, are parents, have houses and are our becoming new leaders.

A Visit to the McFarthest Spot
I woke up groggy on a motel floor and checked my phone. A road trip through the Nevada desert during the biggest snow storm in recent memory was starting to seem like a really, really stupid idea. I'd spent the previous day driving over the Sierra Nevada mountains with my dad and a longtime family friend who I call Uncle Randy. It took several hours of stop and go traffic and some deft navigation of snowy mountain passes, but we had made it to the quiet little town of Tonopah, Nevada.
Three Golden Rules for Millennials in the Workplace
Having spent my career helping leaders bridge the generation gap at the office, I can assure you I’ve heard it all. I’ve seen the intergenerational warfare that breaks out in the boardroom when junior staff question senior leadership. Senior leaders claim junior staff have no respect for hierarchy. Junior staff claim senior leadership has no vision for disruptive ideas. Source: monkeybusinessimages / iStock / Getty I have never seen leaders struggle more than they do with Millennials.
Episode 26: How To Build a Better World Through Better Work, with Kristen Aldridge and Seth Mattison
“It’s all testing and all fighting through the limiting beliefs and the thought that your ideas aren’t good enough, and then realizing you can create anything that you want.” – Kristen Aldridge “If you want to be a leader today, it’s not about whether or not you like people.
The Rising "Phigital" Student
A major generational clash is underway, says a foremost expert, and it’s affecting all industries, including education. The clash is coming from so-called Gen Z, the first generation to be considered fully “phigital” — unwilling or unable to draw a distinction between the physical world and its digital equivalent. So what does that mean for educators? Well, buckle up and hold on.
Move Over, Millennials; Generation Z Is Here
The next generation of workers is upon us: Generation Z, or the iGeneration, has begun to enter the workforce, and the first class of college degree-holders will graduate this spring. So what does this mean for the future of work? Researcher and Generation Xer David Stillman and his son, member of Generation Z Jonah Stillman, have studied this cohort and explain who this generation is, what has shaped them and what they will expect from work.
On the Secular Retention of Ground Water and Ice on Mars
Tropical ground ice on Mars undergoes long-term sublimation and likely exospheric escape. Without restriction of sublimation, the cryosphere would eventually breach, leading to massive loss of any underlying groundwater. We seek to understand the conditions under which the ground-ice seal, groundwater, and subsurface habitability are preserved.
Nation's newest voters are not the millennials, but 14 million Gen Zers
Recent polls and articles suggest that the “millennial vote” could determine this election. But the youngest voters in this election are not one generation, but two. The values and voter preferences of millennials aren’t the same as those for the younger, emerging voting block of Generation Z, born 1995 to 2012. Generation Z needs to be courted differently than millennials, and neither candidate is doing so. For this election, there will be 14 million Gen Zers who are eligible to vote.
The North Face Hedgehog GTX XCR
vote up 7 vote down Note, this is a prior version of the shoe, used pretty hard for a few years. Good support, use of running shoe technology, and foot protection in a trail runner. Gore-tex has been more reliable than in other trail runners for me. The aggressive tread is very good. This version would have benefitted from more lateral support, a better insole, and better laces.
