David Michael Brown’s Biography

For thirty years I have been contributing authoritative and engaging copy to many leading worldwide publications.

My work has been seen in Empire Magazine, GQ, Rolling Stone, Filmink, The Big Issue, Dazed & Confused, TV Week, Film Review, Starburst, Shivers, Cinema Retro, Cinema of the Seventies, We Belong Dead Magazine and more.

I also worked for almost seven years as Senior Editor at Empire Magazine where I managed all of the brands' social media channels, edited the Re.View section of the magazine and provided copy including reviews, interviews, features and news stories.

I have also been contributing to a series of bookazines published by A360 Media in the US on a whole range of subjects including Clint Eastwood, West Side Story, Mick Jagger, Charles Manson and The Goonies.

At Sydney based radio station Eastside 89.7 FM I am executive producer and lead reviewer on Cinemascape, a weekly movie review show that goes out Australia wide on the Community Radio Network.

I also write features, interview filmmakers and produce video essays for Umbrella Entertainment. Most recently I have contributed to their releases of The Hitcher, Open Your Eyes, Caligula, Takashi Miike's Audition, The Raid, a box set of films by Korean director Lee Chang-dong and Coffy for which I also interviewed director Jack Hill.

I am presently writing a book for US publishers Bear Manor Media called Wavelength: The Film Music Of Tangerine Dream about the legendary German electronic pioneers and their collaborations with the likes of Ridley Scott, Kathryn Bigelow, Michael Mann and William Friedkin. I have so far interviewed almost 50 musicians and filmmakers for the project.

I am also researching a project on Andy Warhol associate and filmmaker Paul Morrissey (Flesh for Frankenstein, Blood for Dracula, Trash, Flesh and Heat) and have interviewed Factory members Joe Dallesandro, Holly Woodlawm, Billy Name, Mary Woronov and Gerard Malanga along with many of his collaborators including producer Andrew Braunsberg and composer Claudio Gizzi.
