ZZ Top's Frank Beard had one of the greatest running jokes in rock built right into his name. He was the guy in ZZ Top who didn't have the enormous beard. What he did have was the groove and a signature backbeat. Beard, who died August 17 at age 77, spent more than six decades behind the kit. ZZ Top's Frank Beard was 15 years old when he first became a drummer in a band, and he was only 20 when he joined ZZ Top.
