Opinion - The Knicks’ victory offers interesting insight into US democracy
As New York celebrates the end of a long and historic NBA championship drought, and America readies itself for its 250th birthday celebration, there’s an intriguing insight into the working of our nation we can learn from its most iconic franchise. The Knicks’ victory highlights a profound distinction: There is a significant difference between popularity and success. Success in basketball is clearly defined and visible for all to see: the score.

Red states are the ones going green and winning the clean energy race
With China undergoing one of the most ambitious energy transitions in history, US needs an all-of-the-above approach. Here's a fact that might surprise some people — in the United States, the majority of clean power comes from red states. Political stereotypes would have us believe that blue states are responsible for most renewable energy.
Former governor urges Prop 409 yes vote
During my time as governor, I prioritized health care solutions that delivered better outcomes at a lower cost to taxpayers. We expanded access to care, restored KidsCare for working families and … America feels more divided than ever. But the truth is, the people aren’t as divided as the politicians are. Most of us want the same basic things — safety, opportunity, fairness and freedom. Yet we’ve been driven into hostile camps by a political system that rewards outrage instead of problem-solving.

My budget makes major investments that will leave Arizona even stronger
Arizona is in a much better position – financially and otherwise – than at this time last year. We’ve lost during the pandemic. Arizonans are making more money. And thanks to the passage of the largest income tax cut in state history, they get to keep more of their money. Our economy is roaring. There’s no question about it. But we have work to do for the future of our state – especially for our children.

Opinion | Biden Wins Arizona, Then Turns on It Original
Phoenix For more than two decades national Democrats spent big trying to replicate Bill Clinton’s 1996 Arizona win. After succeeding in 2020, you’d think President Biden would be working overtime to keep the state in the blue column. But less than a year into his administration, his record shows the opposite. If anything, Mr. Biden has inexplicably gone out of his way to antagonize, alienate and frustrate us here in the Grand Canyon State.
Opinion | Arizona and Texas governors: The border crisis in our states was created by the Biden administration
Greg Abbott, a Republican, is governor of Texas. Doug Ducey, a Republican, is governor of Arizona. The Biden administration recently made an astonishingly out-of-touch statement: “The border is secure.” The president himself needs to take a trip to our states. Unlike President Biden, we’ve both been to the U.S. border in our respective states, Texas and Arizona, and the situation is much different from what Washington politicians and bureaucrats are telling Americans.

Leaving California? Don’t forget why
For generations of Americans, California represented the American dream with its majestic landscape and coastal views. It’s the state that brought us Hollywood, the Beach Boys, Disneyland and Ronald Reagan. Today, we see something very different coming out of California. Largely, policies that are crushing small businesses and families, and pushing people and jobs out of the state at a record rate. The pandemic has made things worse, but the Golden State’s luster wore off some time ago.
These targeted investments will help Arizona emerge from the pandemic even stronger
Arizona faced extraordinary challenges in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic brought loss and hardship to every corner of our state. No community was spared from this virus. Unfortunately, when the clock struck midnight on Jan. 1, these challenges didn’t vanish. The battle continues. But I’m optimistic that 2021 will look a lot different because we have a new, powerful weapon in our arsenal that will save lives: the vaccine.
Column | Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey: Inaugurating a president is a sacred tradition
The inauguration of a president marks one of our country’s most sacred traditions: the peaceful transfer of power. Since March 4, 1801, when Thomas Jefferson assumed the presidency from John Adams, America’s leaders have strengthened and renewed our founding ideals, as political rivals put our democratic form of government above their personal differences. And so, it is today, when Joe Biden becomes our 46th president.

This past year we’ve all gotten used to doing business a little differently, and so it is today. a16z Podcast: Of Governors and Mayors, and Tech Policy
Many of the big tech policy issues of the day play out more so at the state and local level, not just federal level. The decisions that cities and states make every day — from autonomous vehicles to bike sharing — may therefore end up setting the stage for broader government policies around new tech. But where do “politics” come in for these policy decisions?
Ducey: Greatest Generation has a lesson to teach us on Pearl Harbor anniversary
Our nation has many memorials to the sacrifices Americans made to defend our freedoms in World War II. None are quite like the memorial built over the sunken remains of the battleship USS Arizona. Five years ago today, I visited the Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Hawaii with my father-in-law John and my wife Angela. John was a first class petty officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Teachers to be among first in Arizona to receive COVID-19 vaccines this month
Arizona is expected to receive “hundreds of thousands” of doses of vaccine for COVID-19 by the end of the month, state health chief Cara Christ said Wednesday, with priority for health-care workers, vulnerable populations, residents of long-term care facilities and teachers. The announcement came even as she disclosed that one person out of every seven who got tested for the virus last week showed they were infected. And her agency reported a new one-day record for cases. But Gov.

I’ve been pretty outspoken about Arizona’s election system, and bragged about it quite a bit, including in the Oval Office. And for good reason. 1/ We’ve been doing early voting since 1992. Arizona didn’t explore or experiment this year. We didn’t cancel election day voting as some pushed for — we weren’t going to disenfranchise any voter.
Arizona & Texas Govs. Ducey and Abbott: Barrett deserves quick Senate confirmation to Supreme Court
In Judge Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump could not have picked a better, more qualified person to serve on the United States Supreme Court. An accomplished jurist, Notre Dame law professor, and mom of seven, Judge Barrett possesses the strength of intellect, high moral character and dedication to the rule of law befitting our nation’s highest court. She is also a model of decency and civility, as countless colleagues of hers have attested to over the years.
Civics Education Key to Understanding American History and Founding Principles Original
(Thinkstock) Decades of neglected civics education have resulted in widespread ignorance of America’s history and founding principles. Margaret Thatcher once said, “European nations were made by history. The United States was made by philosophy. Unique among all nations, the United States knows precisely when and exactly why it was founded.” Today, that may be changing. Survey after survey shows that Americans have a dismally poor understanding of the founding principles underpinning our nation.

Ducey: Ducey: Prescott, rural Arizona in focus for this year’s budget
Recently, while I was in Prescott to deliver my 2020 State of the State Address, I told the audience: “there are needs outside the great state of Maricopa.” And we mean it. This year, my budget focuses on rural Arizona, including investing in infrastructure upgrades, K-12 public schools, community colleges and more.

That’s why Arizona will continue to prioritize investments in Mohave County communities. In the Governor’s Office, we’ve worked consistently to increase funding for programs in our rural communities.
