By Eileen O’Brien Hey, friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your ears. What does the month of March bring to mind for you? For some in 2026, it is the Lunar New Year which this year is the year of the Fire Horse. This is a year for bold action and taking risks.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT DEPARTMENT: This columnist has been communicating with a dead friend for well over a year. No, not through a Ouija board or a psychic but via the USPS and e-mail. Our preferred method of communication for our friendship was not the phone, and we instead enjoyed the unpredictability of receiving a card or an e-mail full of news and funny stories which could be savored any time of the day or night.

As we have all come to believe, January is the month of new beginnings and the ending of old rituals or habits which may no longer be productive in our lives.A proverb that comes to mind dealing with this idea is: “What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year!” -Vern McLellan. Depending on who one talks to, NOVEMBER is the month some folks can’t live with and some folks can’t live without. It’s the month of elections, injections, Veterans, family, friends, food, Daylight Savings Time and World Kindness Day. Now that the elections are over… There’s a group of seniors I know who would like to see a“CANDIDATE FUND” set up for folks to receive $1.00 for every political lawn sign left littering our community one month (Dec. 5th) after the election is over.

The birth of a column has many parents. The birth of “Senior Style” will be my third “child”. The first of my “children” was conceived in the late ‘70s. The location of the column’s birth was the faraway land of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, N.Y. The child was christened “O.L.A. Outlines” and the reason for its birth was the need for its “Dad”, also known as the Editor of a local weekly paper called the Home Reporter, to increase the paper’s readership by tapping into a new source of followers.

Taking Control of the Pharma Conversation
Wed., Oct. 23, 2019 By Eileen O'Brien Eileen O’Brien In recent years, my mantra was “social media is free like a puppy is free” to convey the resources required to do social media right. This was to cover the basics: content strategy, paid promotion, community management and measurement.

Governor Northam: No Surprise, but Disappointment and Opportunity
In my home state of Virginia, there are more people than ever before talking about race, debating whether Governor Northam should resign due to racist photos on his medical school yearbook page. It seems like even more people are concerned about whether Northam is racist than were ever concerned about white supremacist terrorism in Charlottesville less than two short years ago—the kind of racist violence that actually killed people.
