CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Queen's Feast: Charlotte's Restaurant Week is making its grand return to the Queen City. The popular event will run from Jan. 23 through Feb. 1, and features over 120 restaurants spanning across the greater Charlotte area. “It's the perfect mid-winter incentive for a fun and leisurely night out while you sample new spots,” Bruce Hensley, a partner in Hensley Fontana Public Relations, said.

Avery County schools closed Wednesday due to water main break; boil advisory issued in Newland

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — School has been canceled Wednesday in Avery County after a water main break, according to the Avery County Schools district. The school district said students will not have school Wednesday, and all employees that work 10 months of the year will not report to work. Employees who work 11 or 12 months of the year will work, though, with further direction given to them by the principals at their schools.

House fire in Charlotte's Hidden Valley neighborhood was intentionally set, Charlotte Fire says

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A house fire in the Hidden Valley neighborhood of northeast Charlotte Monday night was set on purpose, according to the Charlotte Fire Department. It happened on Dawn Circle, not far from where North Tryon Street intersects with Orr Road. Charlotte Fire crews first responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m. Monday. It took 30 firefighters about 18 minutes to control the fire.

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first paid job was with James Madison University's newspaper, The Breeze. I started as a staff writer and worked my way to a News Editor.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes! I own one. It was a gift from my best friend, given to me the year I first told my family I wanted to be a writer.

How is social media changing news?

Everything is immediate. Breaking news is delivered quicker and more often, and updates are easy to distribute.
