Eric Avidon’s Biography

In more than two decades reporting on first the financial sector and then sports, I've gotten to live my dream. I covered speeches by Alan Greenspan and Colin Powell, the Red Sox for eight years, Boston College football for 12, the World Series, Derek Jeter’s final game, and much, much more. I watched a young woman utterly crush a game-winning home run in the 12th inning of what had been a scoreless playoff game and weep as she rounded the bases, then interviewed her as tears still streamed down her face (“Krystal Bilek killed the ball” remains one my favorite opening sentences, 15 years after I wrote it on a seemingly impossible deadline before the days of wireless). I’ve been a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America for seven years and vote for the Heisman Trophy.

But as newspapers have contracted, as friends and colleagues lost their jobs to layoffs before I lost mine, as the grind of working nights and weekends and facing a deadline each and every day wore me down, I sensed it was time for a change. Now I'm looking for the next adventure.
