Officer shot after pursuing a stolen vehicle in Boyle Heights

KNBC/KVEA A Los Angeles police officer was shot in Boyle Heights Tuesday when gunfire erupted at the end of a stolen vehicle chase, multiple law enforcement sources told NBC4 Investigates. According to preliminary information by the sources, the officer was shot in the chest at least once, but the round was stopped by the officer's ballistic vest. Unused state fire relief funds could still help Altadena, Supervisor Barger says

A large share of the $2.5 billion wildfire relief fund announced by Gov. Gavin Newsom in early 2025 remains unspent, but Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger said the money could still be critical for rebuilding efforts in fire-ravaged Altadena. Barger, whose district includes communities destroyed in the Eaton Fire, said the state fund — originally described as available for disaster recovery — may help cover major infrastructure needs as the area continues to recover.
