The 75% problem: Sports is unprepared for the AI revolution because it never built the identity layer
At the Milken Institute Global Conference in May, Larry Fink and Bruce Flatt described a $10 trillion rebuild of the global economy around AI infrastructure: cloud computing, chips, power generation, fiber and data centers the size of cities. The sports industry was conspicuously absent. The reason is simple: Most sports organizations still do not know who their customers are. You cannot run AI on a fan you cannot identify.

Evolution and influence of MIT Sloan: Franchises are playing catch-up on measuring durability of fan relationships
In 2020, at the height of a global pandemic that had grounded its fleet, American Airlines did something that seemed counterintuitive: It borrowed $7.5 billion from Barclays and Goldman Sachs. The collateral wasn’t its silver-skinned Boeings or its gates at Heathrow. It was a mathematical abstraction — the AAdvantage loyalty program. Wall Street accepted that decades of accumulated purchase data and predictable human behavior were more bankable than physical machinery.
Iran, Purim, and the Obligation to Act in Time
Original Article Posted By: Moritz55, 3/3/2026 4:52:46 PM The joint United States and Israeli strikes on Feb. 28, 2026, did more than destroy military infrastructure. If you want to be a lawyer, study law. If you want to be a doctor, study medicine. If you want to bring down an evil regime, study revolutions. Here are some key concepts: SOURCES OF POWER Every regime needs institutions to enforce its will. Some of these are political and public institutions, such as congress, courts, prosecutors and police. Others are private, like corporations, religious and educational institutions. This is the battle space. The regime uses institutions to rule.
Opinion | Uber’s Lesson for the Marijuana Market
Reclassifying cannabis is an inflection point on the way to its becoming regulated, taxed and sold like alcohol and nicotine. By Lou Correa and Eric Spitz His plan to reclassify cannabis, so that it's no longer a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act, wouldn't make pot legal in the U.S., but it could help marijuana companies do more business. Blood on the Sand: Australian Massacre Exposes Hollow Core of Anti-Zionism
News Corp Australia,POOL Bondi Beach is meant to be neutral ground. A place without history. A democratic stretch of sand where politics dissolves into sunlight, surf, and families pushing strollers toward the water. That illusion died when Jews gathered there to light Hanukkah candles - and were slaughtered for it. The massacre belongs to a broader pattern that has accelerated since Oct. 7, 2023: Jews targeted far from any battlefield, in the ordinary spaces of civic life.

America’s New Fiscal Trap
In a post-midnight vote along party lines, bleary-eyed Republican members of Congress passed a tax-and-spend bill that will define America’s fiscal reality for decades. In their rush to strike a deal by Independence Day, GOP lawmakers reassembled the architecture of federal finance in ways that lock the United States into a Sisyphean future where balancing the budget will become a political impossibility.

MIT Must Meet the Moment: Accountability on Campus Antisemitism
In Cambridge, brilliance is a given – but moral courage is not. At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where equations are solved at light speed and robots teach themselves, the administration has yet to master the basic principle of protecting its students from hate. For all its technological genius, MIT is flunking Leadership 101. The events unfolding at MIT reveal a profound failure of moral responsibility compounded by the absence of any institutional voice.

Biden Promised a Bridge But Left a Gulf
When historians look back at Joe Biden’s presidency, they will see failure wrapped in good intentions, marked most poignantly by the absence of a succession plan. Getting old is not a crime – it happens to every mortal. But Biden’s unwillingness to face that fact of life, and to choose a vice president accordingly, was a blunder that undermined his inability to lead effectively and will impair his legacy. The International Olympic Committee oversees one of the world’s most powerful brands, which it guards strenuously. In the early 1980s, when Peter Ueberroth was serving as chairman of the Los Angeles Organizing Committee, he transformed the prospect of hosting the Olympics from likely failure to resounding potential success. After the boycott of the 1980 Moscow games, the Olympic movement was in full crisis.

IOC leaders must make difficult decisions
By Eric Spitz Real Clear Wire Last week, CNN aired a segment on “The Lead with Jake Tapper” about the abdication of leadership at yet another major global institution. The International Olympic Committee won’t even acknowledge the safety and security concerns of Israeli and Jewish athletes who are declining to travel to Doha, Qatar, for the 2024 World Aquatics Championships – the primary qualifier for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Israeli conflict leaves Olympic organizers with safety dilemma

The International Olympic Committee won’t even acknowledge the safety and security concerns of Israeli and Jewish athletes who are declining to travel to Doha, Qatar, for the 2024 World Aquatics Championships — the primary qualifier for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Symbols Matter: Move the Games Out of Qatar
Due to their long history of funding and abetting Islamic fundamentalist militias, Qatar became the Mecca for Arab terrorism in the 21st century. The estimate of Qatari funding for Hamas topped $1.8 billion in 2021, and they’ve lent their political support to branches of Al Qaeda, to the Taliban, as well as to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the architect of the 9/11 attacks.
The Drug Peace
My brother Sam was an uncle for more than half his life, and he was born on the Fourth of July. Like so many broken souls, he succumbed to death by fentanyl in 2020, during the first summer of COVID. Now, my “little” brother, Sam Spitz, is dancing backstage with the band in the sky.
The President Weighs In on Cannabis
With the Democrats retaining control of the Senate in a divided Congress, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer needs bipartisan issues that can generate enough Republican support to pass both chambers. It may be counter-intuitive, but cannabis legalization works for both sides. On Oct. 3, help came from an unexpected place. President Biden released a “Statement on Marijuana Reform” that made federally legal cannabis a near-term reality in the United States.
Why Federal Legalization of Cannabis Is Finally Here
If weed fails in the Senate, and no one hears, does it make any noise? On July 21, 2022, the three most ambitious U.S. senators ever to pay attention to cannabis sheepishly launched federal cannabis legislation into the future, with the introduction of the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act. The landmark announcement drew surprisingly little fanfare. Senators Schumer, Wyden, and Booker seemed resigned.
California Should Treat Cannabis Like a Jobs Machine
At the beginning of legalized adult-use cannabis in California in 2018, we all thought the banking situation was going to get gradually better. We thought that as federal legalization became more of a “when” than an “if,” things would loosen up. The money situation here has gotten much tighter though, and the lack of capital is driving California cannabis to a painful and ignominious death. Once the unparalleled leader, California’s legal ecosystem is today in shambles.
California Needs to Treat Cannabis Like a Jobs Machine, Not a Regulatory Target

Why Federal Legalization of Cannabis Is Finally at Hand
The silliness of Sha’Carri Richardson’s disqualification from the U.S. Olympic track team for legally smoking marijuana shines a bright light on the civil liberties spot where we find ourselves in 2021 in the United States of America. Our country wants legal cannabis, and we are currently engaged in a nationwide legal-status transition of a very old plant. One day, the marijuana demons will rest, and we can all get back to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
We Need More Joy. Legalize Marijuana.
In the first months of the Biden administration, news about cannabis is erupting everywhere. New York and New Jersey have agreed to legalize recreational cannabis, and in mid-March Rep. Ed Perlmutter, a Colorado Democrat, re-introduced the SAFE Banking Act, which promises to reduce public safety risk by enabling legal cannabis operators to use the federal banking system.
When it comes to marijuana legalization, the data tells us a lot (guest viewpoint)
To cannabis watchers, 2020 was the pivot year in the long and inevitable march toward federal legalization of adult-use cannabis in the United States. Thirty-eight states currently allow medical marijuana, and 15 of these have made it legal for adults over 21 to consume cannabis freely. Most telling, in 2020 the people of South Dakota were the first to skip over “medical marijuana” and go directly to legalized recreational use by adults. We have reached the tipping point.

INTERVIEW: Wolf Alice - Exploring the Visions of a Life
Releasing a critically-acclaimed debut album that reaches cult-following status is arguably the goal of any musician. The sudden rise to stardom can create a euphoric experience that puts individuals on cloud nine from touring and extensive experiences that follow. When the time comes to descend from cloud nine and start anchoring down on a sophomore album, the pressure can be felt to create something just as memorable as the debut release.

Trump lacks institutional support to win presidency
Like many others, I have for many months believed that Donald Trump’s candidacy would ultimately fail. He does not act like a typical candidate, he has never held public office and his views seem out-of-step with those of the mainstream American voter. But he is the clear frontrunner and likely standard-bearer for one of the two major U.S. political parties, and he has continued to defy expectations at each new challenge.
Beau Biden: Remembering a hero and a father
Two weekends ago, I traveled across the country for the funeral of a close friend from my college days at the University of Pennsylvania. He was the first of our friends to pass away, and his premature death at 46 hit us all hard. Our solace came from knowing that, in this case, our friend Beau received the recognition and honor that he deserved. The president of the United States delivered his eulogy, and the funeral service was shown live on cable to a mourning country. Beau Biden was remarkable.
Consolidating O.C. into single city would increase clout
Orange County should consolidate its 34 cities into a single city that is divided into wards or boroughs. We can lead the nation by innovating a 21st century model of regional government and create, from scratch, the third-largest American city. To understand this concept, it is instructive to understand how Orange County came to be. In 1857, a group of German settlers bought some arable land in Southern California so they could start a new wine-making community that they called Anaheim.
A football coach who builds winners on the field and in life
“You provide the effort, God controls the outcome,” were the words repeated by nearly all of the men assembled on the dais recently to roast and toast Bruce Rollinson, the coach of “Quarterback High” and one of the most respected high school football coaches in America. The Orange County Youth Sports Foundation honored Rollinson as its Sportsman of the Year in 2015, and it invited his colleagues, his players and his competitors to talk about the impact that Rollinson has had on their lives.
