Business World Philippines | October 13, 2026 THE AMBITION and market interest to achieve the ASEAN Power Grid is here, but sponsors, governments, and financing partners need to address early-stage risks so projects can secure scarce manufacturing capacity before conventional project financing becomes available. Subsea power cables are increasingly important to interconnected economies.

Importance of E-Learning Anytime and Anywhere
E-learning promises to increase learning productivity in corporations quite unlike any other form of learning initiatives. Moreover, the rationale is straightforward: rather than travelling to one place and staying there to be trained, it would be great if the learner could learn right from where he or she is working, using the very computing devices he or she has in hand.
Triploidy is prominent in the duckweed Lemna minor complex
|
Abstract Duckweeds (Lemnaceae Martinov) are aquatic monocotyledonous plants known to be the smallest and fastest-growing flowering plants on Earth. Many species are morphologically indistinguishable due to their reduced structures, yet molecular evidence suggests that visually similar clones could be distinct species or hybrids. Using a comprehensive suite of genomic, molecular and cytogenetic methods, we analyzed 58 presumed Lemna minor clones to resolve their relationships.

Genome sequence assembly of the 5S rDNA loci informs haplotype specificity and evolution in the greater duckweed Spirodela polyrhiza - Communications Biology
Abstract Despite the rapid expansion of information on eukaryotic genomes, data on ribosomal DNA (rDNA) loci encoding ribosomal RNAs, crucial for the biogenesis of ribosomes, are absent in almost all cases due to difficulties in assembling the long regions of tandemly repeated DNA units. Taking advantage of the uniquely low rDNA copy number in the aquatic plant Spirodela polyrhiza, we resolved the species’ complete 5S rDNA architecture at a nucleotide level.
Plant metacaspases orchestrate wound‐induced pathways for immunity and tissue regeneration
INTRODUCTION As sessile organisms, it is essential for plants to constantly survey their environment and make the necessary changes in their growth and development to maintain homeostasis and optimize fitness. In addition to pathogenic microbes, plants are constantly challenged by herbivorous predators and by mechanical damage from environmental factors.
How small island states can secure an affordable energy future
Small island developing states are among the most vulnerable to climate impacts, including sea level rise, flooding, and extreme weather, despite contributing low global greenhouse gas emissions. These island nations are also heavily reliant on costly imported fossil fuels to meet their energy needs. So when we talk about energy transition in a Pacific context, it’s important to be clear about why this matters.

Structural determinants for pH-dependent activation of a plant metacaspase - Nature Communications
Abstract Arabidopsis thaliana metacaspase 9 (AtMC9) plays roles in clearing dead cells, forming xylem vessels, and regulating immunity and programmed cell death in plants. The protease’s activation is controlled by pH levels, but the exact structural mechanism behind this has not been elucidated. In this work, we report high-resolution crystal structures for AtMC9 under both active (pH 5.5 and pH 4.2) and inactive (pH 7.5) conditions.

An entrepreneur must embrace these 6 parts of life to avoid insanity.
I first wrote for Technode in 2021 about the 6 things life throws at me as an entrepreneur that I have learned to embrace. I was then running my startup. Now that I have gotten out of that grind, started new companies with other co-founders, and spoken to even more people, I wanted to refresh this piece with more insights that I have learned since then. It all started when I was invited by a school in Singapore to share my thoughts with a group of students on what it’s like to be an entrepreneur.
Feeling the Squeeze
Many sectors of commercial real estate are undergoing unprecedented change across the country. Property valuations, most notably in the office sector, have begun to plummet. At the same time, a surge of tax appeals are echoing across the industry. For mortgage brokers, this fluctuating environment presents both challenges and opportunities. These complex commercial property changes are having significant impacts on various stakeholders, especially those involved with finance.
Pyrroline-5-carboxylate reductase 1 reprograms proline metabolism to drive breast cancer stemness under psychological stress - Cell Death & Disease
Abstract Cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) contribute to cancer metastasis, drug resistance and tumor relapse, yet how amino acid metabolism promotes CSC maintenance remains exclusive. Here, we identify that proline synthetase PYCR1 is critical for breast cancer stemness and tumor growth. Mechanistically, PYCR1-synthesized proline activates cGMP-PKG signaling to enhance cancer stem-like traits.
Best Practice for MRI Diagnostic Accuracy Research With Lessons and Examples from the LI‐RADS Individual Participant Data Group
Diagnostic test accuracy research is fundamental for understanding the performance of a diagnostic test and its role in medical decision-making. This research involves evaluating an index test's ability to diagnose a target condition, adjudicated by a reference standard.1 For example, using MRI of the liver to diagnose hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by comparing to a reference standard of histopathology or imaging follow-up.

Smad3 is essential for polarization of tumor-associated neutrophils in non-small cell lung carcinoma - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Neutrophils are dynamic with their phenotype and function shaped by the microenvironment, such as the N1 antitumor and N2 pro-tumor states within the tumor microenvironment (TME), but its regulation remains undefined. Here we examine TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling in tumor-associated neutrophils (TANs) in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients. Smad3 activation in N2 TANs is negatively correlate with the N1 population and patient survival.

Targeting epiregulin in the treatment-damaged tumor microenvironment restrains therapeutic resistance - Oncogene
Abstract The tumor microenvironment (TME) represents a milieu enabling cancer cells to develop malignant properties, while concerted interactions between cancer and stromal cells frequently shape an “activated/reprogramed” niche to accelerate pathological progression. Here we report that a soluble factor epiregulin (EREG) is produced by senescent stromal cells, which non-cell-autonomously develop the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) upon DNA damage.
A Rare Occurrence of Phantom Tongue Pain
Introduction The incidence of phantom limb pain (PLP) varies in literature but may be as high as 95 percent [1-4]. Phantom pain is typically described as burning, aching, or electrical shooting pain in the amputated limb [1]. Its mechanism is poorly understood. There are several accepted pharmacological therapies that can be effective in relieving phantom pain.
Bored Ape Yacht...

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Crypto News and Price Data
It’s impossible to predict whether GameStop shifting its failing business model to involve NFTs will pay off in the end, but it certainly is symbolic of a shifting paradigm. On the back of NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, a thousand corporate flowers may bloom and a thousand more may falter. These unique, digital assets – often associated with cartoon animals and “rug pulls” – are a new technological standard. One that helps link creators and fans closer together by removing the middleman.

Crypto Domains Explained
Crypto domains are an innovative system that provides new levels of security to domain holders represented by a single Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT). These domains no longer have a central point of failure and allow users to post without the risk of being censored by a third-party entity. In the past, domain ownership worked on a rental basis– domain holders wouldn’t actually own the domain they “purchase.” Instead, they would rent the rights to a domain registry and pay a renewal fee.

Bitcoin's Pandemic-Era Correlation With Tech Stocks Disappears
A pandemic-era correlation between Bitcoin and Nasdaq 100 futures is evaporating, stirring the debate about what role the token can play in investment portfolios. The 30-day correlation between the virtual currency and the futures has fallen to almost zero in recent days, from a 2021 peak toward the end of September of 0.56 -- a reading that suggested tech stocks and Bitcoin were often moving in tandem. The correlation had generally been positive since February 2020.
