If you've never been to gamescom, believe me when I say that the entire week ends up a total blur. The show is so insanely massive, and even if you're someone that's trying to maximize your time in Cologne, there still aren't enough hours in the day to stop and try everything that teams have on offer on the floor. That said, of course I made sure to take the time go hands-on with Final Fantasy VII Revelation at the Square Enix booth, because... well, it's Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

You must forgive me, as prior to gamescom 2026, I'm not actually someone that was extremely familiar with the Monsters offshoot of the legendary Dragon Quest IP. Sure, I'd heard of the creature collecting spin-off series, but it wasn't one I'd ever jumped into myself, despite being a massive fan of the other comparable games in the genre (insert Pokémon reference here).

Ah, the Mobile game iteration of a beloved IP or gaming franchise. Spin-offs of our favorite series coming to our smartphones aren't at all a new idea, and frankly, it's something that can often lead to a mixed reception from diehard supporters of a property at best. I'm a huge fan of Nintendo games myself, but sadly, I never caught the fever for Super Mario Run, Mario Kart Tour, or Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, for example.
