Getting Transfer Pricing Adjustments Right Isn’t Just About Tax
Transfer pricing policies are often designed using benchmarks, target margins, or arm’s-length ranges established annually. In practice, actual results may deviate from intended outcomes throughout the year because of changes in revenue, product mix, costs, foreign exchange rates, and other business conditions. Transfer pricing adjustments, or “true-ups,” are therefore an important component of operational transfer pricing.
Can DEMPE Contributions Be Measured With Greater Consistency?
The OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and Tax Administrations (the “OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines”) have elevated the importance of development, enhancement, maintenance, protection, and exploitation, or DEMPE, placing them at the center of how multinational enterprises and tax authorities assess the allocation of profits from intangible property, or IP.

The loan will support SABESP’s plans to upgrade sewage infrastructure and achieve universal service coverage across the state of São Paulo.
Paraneoplastic Papuloerythroderma of Ofuji Masquerading as Worsening Psoriasis
Introduction Paraneoplastic papuloerythroderma Ofuji (PEO) is a rare exfoliative erythroderma characterized by severe pruritus with diffuse erythema and scaling with relative sparing of the skin folds.1 It is often associated with an underlying malignancy. Recognition can be particularly challenging in patients with pre-existing inflammatory dermatoses, as new paraneoplastic erythroderma may be misattributed to progression or treatment failure of the underlying condition.

Smash tech debt with AWS Transform: The new era of migration and modernization | Amazon Web Services
Technical debt isn’t just a developer inconvenience—it’s a material drag on enterprise innovation. The numbers tell a stark story: Forrester reports that nearly 20% of IT budgets are spent managing technical debt instead of advancing new capabilities. The Journal of Systems and Software found that developers lose an average of 23% of their working time dealing with technical debt. According to Accenture, in the US alone, tech debt costs $2.41 trillion a year and would require $1.52 trillion to fix.

Security needs to shift away from risk and focus on trust
Disclaimer: Opinions expressed are solely my own and do not express the views or opinions of my employer or any other entities with which I am affiliated. I’m traveling this week, so I’m still working on a post, i.e. the post is delayed. I’ve been thinking a lot about Travis McPeak’s recent slides from his Campfire Stories talk. I realize that a lot of where security provides value… it’s not very good at, such as assessing risk.
Optimal planning for integrated electricity and heat systems using CNN-BiLSTM-Attention network forecasts
To date, the multi-energy systems have been recognized as research focus since that they have the merits of flexible and efficient energy production and utilization. One of most important forms of multi-energy systems is the IEHS, consisting of the electricity system and district heating system [1], which facilitates efficient interactions between individual energy sectors.

The Wiz acquisition of Lacework makes sense
Disclaimer: Opinions expressed are solely my own and do not express the views or opinions of my employer or any other entities with which I am affiliated. One of the biggest rumors of last week was that Wiz was in talks to acquire Lacework. For me, it was shocking and not shocking at the same time. I felt that Lacework was at the cusp of a breakthrough because people would realize they needed a more sophisticated cloud security product.

DotA 2 patches too much
This is a rant about how modern game developers frequently patch their games, which ironically reduces their enjoyability. For most of the article, I will use DotA 2 as the main example to make my points, but I suspect that DotA 2 is not the only game with the issues I describe here. I played a wide variety of competitive games throughout my life. In the mid 2000s, I got into chess, Magic The Gathering, and StarCraft.

How Assembly Orientation of an SMPS Inductor Affects Emissions
August 11, 2021 Blog One potential source of emissions is the switching node, referred to as SW on many schematics. The SW node copper can act as an antenna, transmitting the noise generated by fast and efficient high power switching events. This is the main source of emissions for most switching regulators.
A Practical Method for Separating Common-Mode and Differential-Mode Emissions in Conducted Emissions Testing
August 09, 2021 Blog EMI from switching regulators is broken down into radiated and conducted emissions (CE). This article focuses on conducted emissions, which can be further classified into two categories: common-mode (CM) noise and differential-mode (DM) noise. Why the CM-DM distinction? EMI mitigation techniques that are effective for CM noise are not necessarily effective for DM noise, and vice versa, so identifying the source of conducted emissions can save time and money in suppressing it.

Frankly Speaking 4/27/21 - Data security might have new life!
It’s been a crazy month, but good news! I’m fully vaccinated. But, I’m going to ease my way back into normal life and not do anything too crazy. I met up with someone in person, and I totally forgot how much time it took to plan a meetup spot and actually travel to meet up with the person… Maybe more Zoom meetings are in my future. Anyway, I hope spring and summer will bring some normality back and also allow everyone to have a break.

Compositional Analysis of Heavy Petroleum Distillates by Comprehensive Two-dimensional Gas Chromatography, Field Ionization and High-resolution Mass Spectrometry
Research Article First Online: 18 November 2019 Shares 40 Downloads Abstract We report recent progresses of combining comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (2DGC or GC × GC) separation, field ionization (FI), and time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOF MS) for the detailed analysis of vacuum gas oil distillation (VGO) cuts. 2DGC separates petroleum molecules by the combination of boiling point and polarity. FI generates molecule ions-only mass spectra.

‘Yushan Project’ not the solution
The Ministry of Education has announced its “Yushan Project” proposals aimed at “recruiting globally and retaining locally” gifted academics and addressing the problem of uncompetitive salaries for university teaching staff. The plan would increase professors’ salaries as of next year and see a number of “Yushan scholars” selected, who will have their salaries augmented to the tune of NT$5 million (US$165,909) for three years, raising the typical annual salary for these few to NT$6.5 million.
Life in the Dying Urban Village: A Photographic Journey into Baishizhou
Through these images I explore a people and a place. In time the barren concrete and twisting alleys of Baishizhou will be gone, and with them, the physical memory of one of Shenzhen’s last urban villages. Less than forty years ago, Shenzhen was a small trading town of fewer than thirty thousand. In Baishizhou you can still catch glimpses of that epoch, nuances of a steadier, calmer tempo. As the city expanded, Baishizhou remained, in many ways, as it was. That is not to say nothing changed.

Improving Performance - Finding Polynomial Roots
I'm fairly new to Mathematica. In the past, my usage has mostly been limited to solving the occasional equation, making some plots, and working with small scaled statistics. None of these have been requiring regarding performance so I typically did not give much thought to optimizing my code. Right now, I am working on a project that requires a large number of polynomial roots. I have written the following code to find these roots for polynomials with coefficients (1) and (-1).
