ELGIN, Ill. — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in Elgin after an off-duty Kane County sheriff’s deputy came across an armed robbery in progress on Monday afternoon. Elgin police were called to the scene near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and National Street just after 4:30 p.m. Monday following a report of a shooting in the area, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. CHICAGO (WGN-TV) — Two mothers and three of their children were shot Thursday morning on Chicago’s South Side. Police said officers responded to a home on South Woodlawn Avenue around 6:15 a.m. for reports of multiple people shot. Upon arrival, officers found five gun shot victims and began administering first aid. Police said a 42-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A 24-year-old woman was taken to the hospital were she was pronounced dead.

Body recovered from Lake Michigan near where 19-year-old woman went missing
CHICAGO — A body has been recovered from Lake Michigan near Foster Avenue Beach, where a 19-year-old woman has been reported missing. Around 9:40 a.m. Thursday, police discovered a body not too far from the beach area. Police have not confirmed that the body is the missing swimmer. Police said the teen was swimming at the beach around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses said she was last seen struggling to swim to the shore, before submerging under the water.
Coroner: Missing Navy sailor found in Lake Michigan drowned
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WGN) — The body of a missing U.S. Navy sailor was recovered Wednesday evening from Lake Michigan in Waukegan, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office and police. Waukegan police said the body and clothing description matches that of U.S. Navy Sailor Seamus Gray, who went missing on March 18. The coroner’s office later confirmed Wednesday evening was identified as Seamus Gray.
Tenant charged after boarding house owner's remains found in Chicago freezer
CHICAGO (WGN) — A woman has been charged after the remains of a boarding house owner were discovered in a North Side freezer Monday. Sandra Kolalou, 36, is charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a homicide in the death of Frances Walker, 69. On Monday at around 7 p.m., officers responded to the 5900 block of North Washtenaw regarding a missing persons report. Walker owned the boarding house and lived there.
4 dead in Oak Forest after barricade situation, fire
OAK FOREST, Ill. — The medical examiner said four people were killed after officials responded to a barricade situation and house fire in suburban Oak Forest Friday morning. The city on Twitter said police had a barricade subject in a domestic situation on the 5500 block of Ann Marie Lane around 7 a.m. SkyCam 9 was over the area as fire officials were putting out flames at a home. A woman who lives in the neighborhood said she was getting ready for work when she heard multiple gunshots.
Woman charged with attempted murder of her 3-year-old nephew after pushing him into Lake Michigan: police
CHICAGO - A woman was charged after police said she pushed her 3-year-old nephew into Lake Michigan. Victoria Moreno, 34, was charged with felony attempted first-degree murder and felony aggravated battery of a child after she was arrested Monday. A police source on Tuesday told WGN Investigates that Navy Pier surveillance video appears to show a woman throwing the 3-year-old boy into Lake Michigan. Police said Moreno did not attempt to rescue the boy.
Video shows woman throwing 3-year-old nephew into Lake Michigan, police say
CHICAGO (WGN) — Navy Pier surveillance video appears to show a woman throwing her 3-year-old nephew into Lake Michigan, a police source told WGN. Fire officials said the boy was pulled from the water in Chicago around 1 p.m. Monday and arrived at Lurie Children’s Hospital in “very critical condition.” The boy was in cardiac arrest when he was lifted from the water off Navy Pier. Police were questioning a woman in the case, and a source has confirmed to WGN that she is the boy’s aunt.
