One person is dead and one person is suffering from severe burns after a fire in Amherst County. The Amherst County Department of Fire/EMS says they were called to a home on Farmdale Road on Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. Initial reports indicated that someone was possibly trapped inside the home. When they arrived on the scene, crews found one male with severe burns outside of the home.

Sun, March 8, 2026 at 11:57 PM Roanoke Police Department vehicle (Roanoke Police Department) ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) — The Roanoke Police Department is investigating following a deadly shooting on Sunday night. Authorities say they were called to the 1000 block of Norfolk Avenue SW just after 9:45 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, they found one man with critical gunshot injuries. Police say he was taken to the hospital where he later died.

False threat at Lynchburg General Hospital

Grace Barrett Lynchburg General Hospital has reopened after an active shooter was reported on the ground late Thursday night. Lynchburg Police Department Sergeant Kay Morris said they received mixed calls from someone in the hospital saying a man had a gun or there was an active shooter. Police locked down the hospital as a precaution, and after an extensive search, LPD found no evidence of any guns on the property. This isn't the only false threat Lynchburg General has had to deal with recently.
