Apple wants publishers to give up half of their revenues from upcoming subscription news service
Reports are emerging that Apple plans to launch its subscription news service on March 25, but publishers are balking at the internet giant’s revenue demands. The service has been described as being like “Netflix for news”, with users paying a flat monthly price to Apple – rumoured to be in the range of US$10 per month – for access to a range of paid news and magazines. It might end up being a good deal for consumers, but publishers aren’t as enthusiastic.
Apple’s privacy reputation takes a hit as firm scrambles to fix FaceTime bug
Group calling on Apple’s FaceTime service has been temporarily disabled as the tech giant works on a patch to address a bug that enables eavesdropping. News broke yesterday of a vulnerability that is activated when users initiate group calls and add themselves as a participant. The bug somehow tricks the recipient’s smartphone into believing a group call is already underway, and it inexplicably turns on the recipient’s microphone even if they haven’t accepted the call.
Ramp up your Amazon Ad Game
It’s clear that Amazon is on a monumental roll. The company’s growth is staggering, showing a 39% year over year increase in net sales, a 12x jump in earnings per share (EPS), and over 100 million Prime subscribers globally in Q2 2018. There simply isn’t another eCommerce company with the same market presence and influence over the customer journey. The reality is that many people start their purchase journey on Amazon, and brands can’t afford to ignore Amazon’s melting pot of customer demand.
Why CTV advertising should be a priority for brand marketers
Where most screens fit snugly in the palms of our hands, the phrase ‘size matters’ could seem somewhat irrelevant when talking about advertising in today’s digital spaces. But Connected TVs (CTVs) – an umbrella definition for smart TVs, boxes, sticks and devices which can stream content via broadband – offer brands a new realm of high impact, big-screen media space. In 2014, one in ten UK households owned a CTV.
Apple's HomePod smart speaker getting major improvements, phone call support
Apple’s HomePod is about to get a whole lot better as the company addresses some of the common complaints about the smart speaker. Engadget reports that the Home Pod’s latest beta test points to a number of new features that users have been clamouring for. Perhaps the most noteworthy addition would be the inclusion of native phone call support. Right now, users have to start calls on their iPhones and then switch audio inputs.

Amazon's Prime Day kicks off today at noon in the UK
Amazon Prime Day kicks off at noon today, and there are lots of great deals for buyers to take advantage of. This year’s event will run for a full 36 hours before ending tomorrow at midnight. The day of sales, which can be thought as a Black Friday in the summer, came later than usual this year to avoid clashing with the World Cup. In 2017, Prime Day saw a 60% growth over the previous year, and the firm will be looking to break records yet again with the extended sale hours.
Is Amazon bringing TV advertising to Prime?

TechCrunch reports that he job posting was originally entitled “Head of Free to Air TV & Advertising”, but Amazon abruptly changed it to “Head of Prime Video Channels Free To Air TV & Advertising TV Partner Channels” after the posting started to get news coverage.
New Apple Maps makes up for past version's shortcomings
After a rocky start, Apple has decided to give its Maps app a complete overhaul, and it appears they’ve learned quite a lot from the previous version’s failings. Using first-party data that has been collected through iPhones and a fleet of cars equipped with cameras and sensors, Apple is breathing new life into the much-maligned map program. The new version is expected to debut in San Francisco this autumn when the next iOS beta is released.

Hearing Your Customers Loud And Clear - Brand Quarterly
Many businesses are straining to listen and understand what consumers are saying to them. Purporting to fulfil that need is a plethora of Voice of the Customer (VoC) products. VoC is, of course, a relatively modern phrase that is used to describe what traditional business owners would have simply called ‘listening to your customers.’ The increasing prevalence of VoC technology just goes to show how much importance businesses place on knowing their customers’ opinions.
Making Marketing Accessible - Brand Quarterly
In an age of mass media, the personalisation of consumer recommendations has become a necessity. From beacons to data management platforms, marketing companies are eager to make sure that the messages we receive are specifically relevant to consumers. However, many marketers have been slow to reach out to blind and deaf consumers, and those with hearing or sight loss.
Social Media - The good, the bad and the ugly
Common perception is that consumers are more likely to voice complaints than praise for a company. The idea is that consumers will rapidly vent their frustration to their friends and over social media, but are less likely to broadcast their appreciation for a good customer experience. Yet, latest research commissioned by Yonder Digital Group from independent research organisation MindMetre Research reveals that this perception is wrong.

Amazon, the king of online retail, took the industry by surprise when it launched a bookstore in Seattle. Many thought it may be a publicity stunt, but with plans for a chain of 400 stores selling books as well as devices such as kindle tablets, it looks like the giant is in bricks n’ mortar for the long haul. EU Email Marketing Daily: Don't Pay To Play -- Pay To Personalise
In the fight over inbox space, it appears marketers have forgotten the consumers themselves. Now, with inboxes at breaking point, there have been calls for businesses to pay for a pay-to-play email "stamp" to ensure delivery in customers’ inboxes. This move may go some way in making businesses think twice about the communications they send. However, email "stamps" still fail to address the underlying issues that are causing consumers to turn off from email.

After taking on the Scorecard Valuation Method it’s time to move on to the Venture Capital Method. Here’s what you’ll need to make it work: I am an ardent proponent of the Scorecard Valuation Method for pre-money valuations when it comes to pre-revenue startups because of its simplicity and ease of use for both an entrepreneur and Angel. A Single Customer View in a Data-Heavy World
The desire to implement a “single customer view” (SCV) is no longer a vision for traditional marketers and data scientists, it is a growing necessity. Similarly, an explosion in customer touchpoints and digital accessibility has highlighted shortfalls in omnichannel reporting. Namely, channels may be better understood, but they are still interpreted individually and not weaved into larger, more holistic views of customers’ movements through devices and places.
