Observation of a mixed close-packed structure in superionic water - Nature Communications
|
Abstract The study of superionic (SI) water has been a highly active research area since its theoretical prediction. Despite significant experimental and computational efforts, its melting curve and the stability of different oxygen lattices remain debated, impacting our understanding of SI ice’s peculiar transport properties. Experimental results at lower pressures show disagreement, whereas data at higher pressures are scarce due to the extreme challenges of such experiments.

Van der Waals waveguide quantum electrodynamics probed by infrared nano-photoluminescence - Nature Photonics
Abstract Atomically layered van der Waals (vdW) materials exhibit remarkable properties, including highly confined infrared waveguide modes and the capacity for infrared emission in the monolayer limit. Here we engineered structures that leverage both of these nano-optical functionalities. Specifically, we encased a photoluminescing atomic sheet of MoTe2 within two bulk crystals of WSe2, forming a vdW waveguide for the embedded light-emitting monolayer.
Spatial Attribution of Temporal Variability in Global Land‐Atmosphere CO2 Exchange Using a Model‐Data Integration Framework
1 Introduction Land-atmosphere CO2 exchange is a pathway through which about 30% of anthropogenic CO2 emission is assimilated to terrestrial ecosystems (Friedlingstein et al., 2023). It is hence, a crucial flux to understand the future evolution of atmospheric CO2 concentration under global warming. Despite the importance, the current model projection of land-atmosphere CO2 exchange is largely uncertain.
Mediators of Racial Inequities in Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer Care
1 Introduction Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the leading cause of cancer death, exerts a disproportionate burden across subgroups in the United States. In particular, racial inequities exist along the spectrum of care, from diagnosis and evaluation to treatment and survival. Black patients are less likely than White patients to be diagnosed at an early stage [1] and to undergo guideline-recommended PET and CT imaging [2].

Advancements, challenges, and opportunities in the measurement of high heat flux for concentrated solar thermal systems
Solar energy can meet global clean energy demands through electricity generation, solar fuels, and industrial heat [1]. Solar thermal systems are distinguished among solar energy technologies because they transform radiation from the entire solar spectrum into thermal energy for a wide range of applications, from ambient temperatures to over 2000 K [2]. There are two types of solar thermal systems: concentrated and non-concentrated.

Differential cross sections of the $^{16}\mathrm{O}(n,\ensuremath{\alpha})$ reaction at neutron energies from 3.8 to 15 MeV
The importance of studying the O16(n,α) reaction is motivated by multiple nuclear applications which rely on an accurate nuclear reaction data library for oxygen. Discrepancies between past experimental data on the O16(n,α)C13 reaction and its time-reverse C13(α,n)O16 reaction have led to various different nuclear data evaluations. We have measured O16(n,α) reaction cross sections using the LENZ instrument with the unmoderated white neutron source at LANSCE.
Molecular insights into the wettability of antifreeze protein-adsorbed hydrate surface: Application to hydrate anti-agglomeration
Gas hydrates are crystalline compounds formed at low temperatures and high pressures, in which guest molecules such as CH4, C2H6, and CO2 are stabilized within water cavities [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]. Three types of hydrates are found in nature, including sI, sII, and sH [3], [6]. On one hand, hydrates play crucial roles in energy production as a novel natural gas source [7], [8], [9].

Testing electron–phonon coupling for the superconductivity in kagome metal CsV3Sb5 - Nature Communications
Abstract In crystalline materials, electron-phonon coupling (EPC) is a ubiquitous many-body interaction that drives conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductivity. Recently, in a new kagome metal CsV3Sb5, superconductivity that possibly intertwines with time-reversal and spatial symmetry-breaking orders is observed. Density functional theory calculations predicted weak EPC strength, λ, supporting an unconventional pairing mechanism in CsV3Sb5.
Discovery of conjoined charge density waves in the kagome superconductor CsV3Sb5 - Nature Communications
Abstract The electronic instabilities in CsV3Sb5 are believed to originate from the V 3d-electrons on the kagome plane, however the role of Sb 5p-electrons for 3-dimensional orders is largely unexplored. Here, using resonant tender X-ray scattering and high-pressure X-ray scattering, we report a rare realization of conjoined charge density waves (CDWs) in CsV3Sb5, where a 2 × 2 × 1 CDW in the kagome sublattice and a Sb 5p-electron assisted 2 × 2 × 2 CDW coexist.

Analysis of paint traces to determine the ship responsible for a collision
Abstract Although there have been many instances of ship collision at sea in recent times, not much research has been conducted on the topic. In this study, paint from an actual site of ship collision was collected and analyzed as evidence. The amount of evidence collected from the ships involved in the collision is either small or has inconsistent morphology. In addition, the contaminants and samples are often mixed in this evidence, making its analysis difficult.
