BILLINGS — Michael Hummert, a Democrat running for one of Montana's U.S. Senate seats, is positioning himself as a fiscally conservative alternative in a state where he says 40% of voters hold the balance of power. Hummert, 67, ran against then-incumbent U.S. Sen. Jon Tester in the 2024 Democratic primary, receiving 3,328 votes. He said Tester's three-term incumbency and the dynamics of a presidential election year made that race particularly difficult for any Democrat.
