Beer’s crossroads moment
Moderation, occasion and inclusivity are reshaping drinking culture, demanding a rethink of how beer brands stay relevant, writes Hamish Campbell From the steady rise of low-alcohol beers responding to Gen Z’s preference for moderation, to the sustained growth of the RTD space globally – and exploration of non-carbonated RTD formats aimed at addressing consumer comfort and drinkability – beer is being forced to reconsider its cultural and commercial identity.

Thanks to Tiaro — how this small Aussie town is saving the Mary River turtle - Australian Geographic
The Mary River turtle (Elusor macrurus) is one of Australia’s largest freshwater turtles, weighing up to 8kg. You might know it as the bum-breathing punk turtle – it can stay underwater for days, extracting oxygen through its cloaca, and algae growing on its head can look like a mohawk. It’s also one of the most threatened. This species is found only in the Mary River in south-east Queensland, which empties into the sea near K’Gari/Fraser Island.
Saving the Mary River turtle: How the people of Tiaro rallied behind an iconic species

People with MS driving direction of research and advocacy - InSight+
“WHAT should I do?” asks the expectant mother going through labour. “Nothing dear,” says the doctor. “You’re not qualified.” While that might be a scene from Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983), it is fair to say that until recently consumers have played a minor role in their own health care. They are increasingly moving to centre stage; however, the research sphere must foster more growth in co-developing strategy and direction, with the consumer at the centre.
The World Of CGI And Branding: Creating The Real, The Unreal, And Beyond
Lately, it's happening all too often. My sneaker infatuation is being preyed upon by impossibly good-looking ads on-screen. I’m lucky if I can make it through an Instagram scroll without an email order confirmation ending up in my inbox. With new routes to consumers stealing voice and market share, the way brands are reaching out to their customers and how consumers want to receive them is radically changing shape—driving deeper engagement and broader awareness in their first moments of connection.

Why do people donate to conservation? Insights from a ‘real world’ campaign
Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) play a key role in biodiversity conservation. The majority of these organisations rely on public donations to fund their activities, and therefore fundraising success is a determinant of conservation outcomes. In spite of this integral relationship, the key principals for fundraising success in conservation are still guided by expert opinion and anecdotal evidence, with very few quantitative studies in the literature.
A right continental fuss: Zealandia explained
Dr Hamish Campbell, Te Papa’s geologist in residence from GNS Science, talks about the news that intrigued the world in February 2017 – that it can legitimately be claimed that Zealandia is a distinct continent. Did you hear? There is a new continent on planet Earth. Crazy stuff! How could there be in this day and age?! It simply doesn’t make sense. The last continent to be discovered was Antarctica, surely, in the 1820s. This news story gripped the media globally in early February this year (2017).
Seeing earthquakes
Dr Hamish Campbell, Te Papa’s geologist in residence from GNS Science, shares his experience witnessing the green lights in the sky following Sunday night’s earthquake. I was driving home to Wellington from Auckland late on Sunday night after having had dinner in Taupo with Dinah and our children Niamh and Riley. Petrol and coffee in Bulls just before midnight and then onwards beyond Sanson along that long straight stretch of road heading southwest.
I Found 100-Year-Old Glass Plates in an Abandoned Japanese Home
Abandoned places are an alluring subject matter for many photographers. Japan is a treasure trove of abandoned places, or “haikyo”, due to a perfect storm of an ageing population, a burst economic bubble in the 80s, and land tax loop holes. Blogs such as Abandoned Kansai do a fantastic job cataloging these locations, which vary from simple family homes all the way to entire abandoned theme parks.

5 Examples of Stellar Logo Design and Packaging
When business owners embark on the design process, they may commission a logo, but what they're really seeking is a brand. Because the brand—not the logo—is what consumers will interact and fall in love with and the reason they'll stick around. One irony of design—the role of which is to make everyday experiences easier and more intuitive—is the lack of clarity in terminology. Design-speak can get fuzzy. So what exactly does it mean for a business to commission a logo, brand or brand identity?
