(WSFA) - What started as a routine day off playing pickleball quickly turned into a life-saving attempt for Montgomery Fire & Rescue Lieutenant Demetrius Gilmore at the YMCA on Bell Road. “This was the first time anything like this has happened to me off duty,” Gilmore said. Gilmore said he heard commotion on the other side of the gym and went to check it out.

Alabama Medicaid adds new requirement for autism-related ABA referrals starting July 1 Original

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Alabama Medicaid Agency is rolling out new guidelines that change how pediatricians can make autism-related diagnoses that qualify children for Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy referrals. Beginning July 1, 2026, Medicaid says physicians enrolled as Provider Type 31, Specialty 345 (Pediatricians) must submit a written request on official letterhead if they want to add ABA Specialty 175 to their Medicaid enrollment.

(WSFA) - Incarcerated individuals in Deatsville are giving back to the outside community through the state’s only correctional education provider, designed to empower people behind bars once they’re released. This week, incarcerated students at J.F. Ingram State Technical College have been busy in the welding shop building a towering church steeple for Old Macedonia Baptist Church in Clanton.
