Iris Martinez

My name is Iris (he/him), and I'm a Boston-based storyteller and writer passionate about the many ways we intersect with the environment (social, physical) around us. I've been in several different fields, driven by my inquisitiveness about the world and how we experience it. Regardless of whether a story needs an artistic, journalistic, scientific or community-first perspective, I can provide the right lens for a piece to shine.

I'm currently pursuing my MA in Journalism & Media Innovation at Emerson College. I am a Marketing Communications (technical) writer for New England Biolabs, where I work on social media, blog posts, website copy, video creation, graphics and more! I also voice and edit audio packages for "You Are Here" at Emerson College's public radio, WERS 88.9.

Previously, I graduated from Wellesley College in 2024 with a major in biology and was an office assistant for Accessibility and Disability Resources, where I created newsletters and videos, met with students, and researched assistive technology. I was also part of the student newspaper, The Wellesley News, where I wrote over 40 articles and was a Features editor for over two years and Arts & Culture editor for a year. I also previously maintained a book review blog centered around diverse books. Before this, I was a freelance artist!

With each experience, I learn more about how best to share each story's style and how to be accessible and engaging for the right audience. Each piece provides insights about the communities and work I cover, driving future work.
