Introduction Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) play a critical role in translating the genetic code into functional proteins. They generate the direct substrates for protein translation by selecting and activating specific amino acids and transferring them to their cognate tRNAs, forming aminoacyl-tRNA (aa-tRNA; Ibba & Soll, 2000; Pang et al, 2014).
