If I'm not studying theology or leadership, it's financial planning. I find "compound interest," "bear and bull markets," "yields," "markets" and "diversification" fascinating. I recently listened to a podcast hosted by two financial advisors who have worked with hundreds, if not thousands, of clients over the last couple of decades.
Where are you needed
When we begin a new "chapter" in life, there's a phrase that often guides our search: "I'm looking for the best fit." We hear it all the time.
The difference in anger and bitterness
The difference in anger and bitterness is a sunset. Unresolved anger quickly morphs into something much more destructive. This is precisely why Paul urged the church at Ephesus: “… do not let the sun go down while you are still angry …” (Ephesians 4:26, NIV). There’s something about going to bed angry that wakes us up bitter. The loss of sleep is detrimental, but it’s far more dangerous than fatigue.
Before and after
A weight-loss journey often includes the notorious “before and after” picture. One image captures where a person began while the other celebrates the progress that has been made. Side by side, they narrate a motivational story. As one comedian joked when asked if he wanted to go on a diet, “No, I’m still working on my before picture.” While that may make us smile, it also reminds us of a deeper spiritual reality. When Jesus invites us to follow Him, He calls us to a before-and-after picture.

Chicken-fried faith
A DFW restaurant rivals the milk and honey of the Promised Land. It’s an oasis where problems disappear. A haven where stomachs are stretched. A sanctuary where souls are welcomed. A paradise where scales are banished. It’s the one. The only. Babe’s Chicken. If you’ve never experienced this Texas treasure, consider it your official call to pilgrimage. My wife and I recently stopped in for our Babe’s Chicken “fix.” I browsed the collection of signs decorating the walls. They’re all clever.
No vacancy: Worry and worship cannot cohabitate
My wife and I were recently blessed to travel to the mountains of northern New Mexico for a conference where I was speaking. After flying into Albuquerque, we enjoyed the beautiful drive to Red River, taking in the breathtaking scenery along the way. As we traveled, I couldn't help but notice the glowing neon signs outside many of the hotels and motels: "No Vacancy." Of course, that was true of the places where you'd actually want to stay.
Where are you?
One of the most sobering moments in Scripture unfolds in Genesis 3. We know it as The Fall. It’s when sin entered the world. Adam and Eve, created in God’s image, lived in the beauty and abundance of the Garden of Eden. They enjoyed unhindered fellowship with their Creator and every imaginable blessing. God gave them only one command: do not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
JOMO: The joy of missing out
FOMO — the fear of missing out — has become a defining acronym of our age. It often surfaces when we’re forced to make some of life’s biggest decisions. Should I go or should I stay? Should I accept or should I decline? Should I buy or should I sell? The fear of missing out is real. FOMO has a close first cousin, YOLO. In our fear of missing out we also trepidatiously remember that you only live once (YOLO).
A classroom for the soul
Cemeteries are full of people who made big plans. That sobering truth drips with reality. If you have thirty minutes to spare, take a quiet stroll through your local cemetery. Examine the graves and document what you see. Reflect on the lives they represent. Tombstones tell only a fraction of a much larger story. A person’s legacy can’t be confined to a date of entry and departure, but a common theme echoes through rows of graves. Everyone believes they have more time.
The human antibacterial factor APOL3 couples lysosomal damage to mitochondrial DNA efflux and type I IFN induction
Keywords lysosome mitochondrion interferon innate immunity viruses intracellular bacteria damage DNA Introduction Lysosomes are vulnerable to damage by the material they transport. As the endpoint of endocytosis, phagocytosis, and autophagy, these organelles are continually threatened with a barrage of infectious (bacteria, viruses) and non-infectious (particulates, crystals, toxins) insults.
The antibacterial factor APOL3 couples lysosomal damage to mitochondrial DNA efflux and type I IFN induction
Abstract Lysosomal damage is an endogenous danger signal to the cell, but its significance for innate immunity and how specific signaling pathways are engaged by this stressor remain unclear. Here, we uncover an immune-inducible pathway that connects lysosomal damage to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) efflux and type I IFN production.
Are You Looking for Pastoral Support in Community and Regional Prayer?
When my husband and I go to communities to share with prophetic intercessors and church leaders, we are consistently asked about the seeming lack of pastoral support for community prayer. This usually comes up after we talk about the critical role local pastors must play in praying for community and regional breakthrough.
Watch for Corporate Authority to Demolish Strongholds That Individual Authority Can't Budge
By Wanda Alger Published on May 10, 2024 My husband, Bobby, and I were recently in Houston, Texas, where we led a select group of community-minded leaders and prayer warriors in principles of covenant prayer and spiritual warfare. In our short time together, the Holy Spirit demonstrated a powerful revelation that will affect the whole Body of Christ in the days to come. During one of our worship times, I could sense a gift of faith released upon the whole group for healing.
When Patience Is Bad
By Jacob Hawk Published on April 7, 2024 I recently listened to a Christian leadership podcast, specifically for Christian men striving to lead the way in their families, churches, and careers. The speaker had many great things to say, but he made a startling observation about Satan I had never considered.
Progressive Christianity: Throwing You Off a Bridge, Selling It as 'Compassion'
Listen to anyone talking up progressive Christianity, and it won’t take more than three minutes to hear they major in compassion. The self-styled “New Evangelicals” preach how they care for people who’ve been “marginalized and disenfranchised by the American Evangelical Church,” Progressive Christian apologist Randal Rauser says right actions — caring actions — get priority over right beliefs.
Former Military Vet and Deputy Sheriff Authors
Former military vet, high-threat diplomatic security staff for the U.S. State Dept., and deputy sheriff (among many other hats) Josiah O’Neil has released his first book, Defining Truth: Articulating America’s World View. Published earlier this month, the book is essentially a primer, and an excellent one at that, on the conflict between U.S.’s secular woke and Christian-Judaic world views in today’s society.
The Brew: States Rally Around Texas. Bills Fans Forgive Kicker Who Shanked Crucial Field Goal
Happy, happy Friday! As we face the weekend, Texas and the Fed continue facing off over the border. Eyes on Texas It’s not rocket surgery, people. The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion – US Constitution, Article IV, Section 4 — Jack Poso 🇺🇸 (@JackPosobiec) January 25, 2024 And when 300,000 people, mostly military-age males come pouring over your border in a single month, that’s an invasion.
Service & Sacrifice: 'Prepared to Launch'
Middle East The U.S. military continued to pound Iran-backed Houthi terrorist targets in Yemen this week. On Tuesday, U.S. Central Command said airstrikes took out “two Houthi anti-ship missiles that were aimed into the southern Red Sea and were prepared to launch.” The military also said the missiles, which were inside Yemen, were an “imminent threat” to U.S. Navy and merchant ships.

The Senate's 'Border Deal' Is a Scam and a Surrender
Here are some recent “objective” “journalistic” headlines: House Republicans Try to Blow Up the Border Deal They Claim to Want. House Republicans Attempt to Thwart Senate Immigration Deal. A Border Deal to Nowhere? House GOP Ready to Reject Senate Compromise on Immigration With the backing of the MSM, the Democrat-controlled Senate thinks it has the GOP-run House right where it wants it.
Resolute: Biden Told to Hide, Nikki Told to Bail, Kari Tells Those Trying to Bribe Her to Jump in a ... Well ... Lake
Supreme Court tees up Trump ballot case, Haley pressured to quit, while the question remains, “What ‘very powerful people’ wanted to bribe Kari Lake?” The underbelly is getting exposed, and we are Resolute. First up, some breaking news: Just saw Nikki Haley on CNN celebrating her victory today in the Super Bowl. C’mon. That’s funny. More on her in a bit, but we do have some breaking news. SCOTUS Apparently Fast-Tracking Decision on Efforts to Boot Trump from Ballot Mark February 8th on the calendar.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Stands Firm Against Federal Lawlessness, Foreign Invasion
Unless you live inside an unlit cave deep below the Ural Mountains, you know about the confrontation now between our lawless federal government and the state of Texas over the border. The federal branch of government under Biden has been simply refusing for three years to enforce our binding, democratically enacted immigration laws. Let that sink in for a moment. Imagine if for four years Donald Trump had simply refused to enforce our civil rights laws. Or declined to prosecute financial fraud.
In Israel, Sounds of War Mingle With Songs of Life
Bullet holes and toppled furniture bear witness to what happened in the home of one young couple living in Israel close to the border with Gaza on Oct. 7. Their home still partially stands, but they — and about 100 other members of their small community — are dead. Walking through the streets of the small village, Joel Griffith says, “You could tell it once was a very beautiful place.” Griffith, who is Jewish and serves as a research fellow in the Thomas A.
Canada: 100 Churches Torched, Four During Christmas, 2023
About 100 churches have been vandalized, torched, or desecrated over the last two-and-a-half years — not in Egypt or Nigeria — but in Canada (mapped and listed here). While this phenomenon received a bit of media attention when about 30 churches were torched in the summer of 2021, that number has significantly grown to 96, with the authorities doing little, aside from offering implicit approval for these anti-Christian terror attacks.

The Brew: Hollywood Aiming to Remake
Happy Thursday! We’re getting cultured on today’s Brew Jon Stewart Returning to Daily Show on Mondays Through the Election Cycle You know those TV shows that were hot 20 years ago that get revived, and unless they’re called Frasier, generally stink up the room and tarnish the goodwill of the original show? As former actor Ronald Reagan once said, “Well, there you go again.” With the Democrats hemorrhaging support, Hollywood is set to bring back a big gun to help out.
He Hears Us All - The Stream
This past weekend, my wife and I were abundantly blessed by our new, close friends, the plumbers. I sincerely wish that was their last name, but alas, it’s their profession. The plumbers “checked-in” to our residence on Saturday morning and did not “check-out” until Monday evening, and now they feel like family. I hope they enjoyed their stay at the Hawk Suites. It’s Pretty Simple, Really So, what happened? Pretty simple, really. Friday evening, I quickly discovered that we did not have hot water.

At the UN, Nikki Haley Let Abortion Zealots Run Wild
By Austin Ruse & Stefano Gennarini Published on January 12, 2024 Nikki Haley often brandishes her pro-life credentials to conservatives and pro-lifers at home. But her pro-life record as UN ambassador leaves something to be desired. She was slow to take up pro-life priorities internationally, she made several blunders, and left the United Nations without making much of an impact for the pro-life cause.
Truths and Trials: Unraveling the Narrative of January 6th
Last week marked three years since the events of January 6th transpired in our nation’s capitol in the wake of the 2020 Election. The investigation, congressional hearings, and official narrative of the events of that day have created deep divisions amongst Americans. In fact, perspectives about what happened on January 6th fall somewhere in between a violent uprising to overthrow our government and an average, run-of-the-mill tour of the Capitol Building.
Why Does The Washington Post Hate Home Schooling?
A pitfall of the fallen human mind is how narratives shape our perception of the world, even outweighing facts and common sense. For example, nuclear power is one of the safest ways to generate electricity. According to the , nuclear is 99.8% safer than coal in terms of deaths per unit of power.
The Brew: GOATS, Snowflakes and a Weasel Named Fauci
By Al Perrotta Published on January 12, 2024 Happy Friday! Today’s Brew starts with a tip of the cup to two GOATS. Suffer the Little Children: A Christmas Afterword
By Mark DeVine Published on January 11, 2024 Approximately 150,000 mothers have given birth in the United States since Christmas. More than 34,000 babies have been aborted. What contemporary sensibility better reflects the diminished influence of the Bible in the West than does its altered perception and reception of children? From Genesis to Revelation, fathers, mothers, and their communities exult in the birth of their children as the purist of divine blessings this life affords.
The Other January 6th
By Jerry Newcombe Published on January 11, 2024 Here’s a quick quiz. When you think of December 25th, what comes to mind? No doubt Christmas is the answer. How about February 14th? St. Valentine’s Day, of course. When you think of July 4th, the birthday of America comes to mind. But what do you think of in reference to January 6th? What comes to mind?

6 Top Takeaways From Trump’s Debate-Skipping Town Hall
Donald Trump again counterprogrammed a Republican presidential debate Wednesday night, skipping another opportunity as the front-runner to take on his GOP challengers. “Remember this: Our ultimate retribution is success,” Trump said during one memorable moment as he appeared live on Fox News Channel for town hall-style questions from an audience while CNN aired a fifth official debate. This time, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sparred with former South Carolina Gov.
Antisemitism From the Left
Jews are feeling increasingly afraid and unwelcome. Last week, girls on the basketball team of a Jewish private school in suburban Hartsdale, New York, were jabbed and hit with antisemitic slurs by players from Yonkers’ Roosevelt High School. “I support Hamas, you f*****g Jew,” a Roosevelt player snarled. The game had to be called off in the third quarter, and the Jewish girls needed school security to help them leave. Antisemitic incidents were already on the rise in 2021 and 2022.

Are Progressive Christians Countercultural?
In a recent Instagram video, a progressive Christian (also an “exvangelical” and deconstruction coach) claims he and other progressive Christians are not capitulating to culture by advocating for pro-gay and pro-trans theology. Rather, he argues, men and women who identify as LGBT have always been at odds with culture. They’re the ones who have been historically oppressed, discriminated against, and targeted with violence. Heteronormativity is the current standard.

Memo to the Global Ruling Class: Trashing The Sound of Freedom Looks Bad
By The Ruth Institute Published on January 10, 2024 Ruth Institute founder Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse responds to YouTube removing her video defending The Sound of Freedom until The Ruth Institute appealed. January 8, 2024 The Sound of Freedom is a popular film about child sex trafficking, but major news outlets trashed it using the exact same words: “Qanon” and “conspiracy theory” — anything to discredit this film and the horrors it depicts.
Science Has a Major Fraud Problem. Here’s Why Government Funding is the Likely Culprit
President Biden’s 2024 budget includes over $210 billion directed toward federal research and development, an approximately $9 billion increase from 2023 funding. That might not sound particularly bad — after all, who doesn’t like science and innovation? But, although seemingly noble, the billions pumped into the U.S. government’s National Science Foundation don’t always translate into finding cures for debilitating diseases, or developing groundbreaking technologies.
