FREEPORT, Ill. (Rockford News First) - The Albertus Airport earns a special honor from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The airport at 1255 E. Airport Road, Freeport, was named one of IDOT’s 2026 Airports of the Year, recognized as the Large General Aviation Airport of the Year. Six winners were chosen based on their accomplishments including cooperation with the state, safety record and facility maintenance.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (Rockford News First) - Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling received $50,000 Tuesday to help survivors of abuse. The organization will use the funds for program supplies, support personnel, travel and rent. The nonprofit, provides critical support to Winnebago and Boone County victims and their families. “Grants like these help support, keep our services free. And survivors of sexual violence should never have to pay because of the trauma that happened to them. It wasn’t their fault.
