NEW YORK, N.Y. (WGEM) - Some students from the Quincy Junior High School (QJHS) got the VIP treatment Sunday at the matinee of The Outsiders on Broadway. Producer Ryan Jude Tanner, himself a Quincy High School grad and owner of the Patio restaurant in Quincy, gave the students a special look at the theater and special access to the production. Trip organizer Brian Lewton was able to arrange the meetup, thanks to retired educator Kathy Dooley.

Quincy water rate increases planned to fund lead line replacement

QUINCY (WGEM) - A series of annual water rate increases could be ahead for Quincy customers as the city prepares to meet a 2037 federal deadline for lead water line replacement, as well as other capital improvements. Public Works Director Jeffrey Conte said the city can qualify for a 30-year, interest-free federal loan to pay for the work, but must demonstrate it can repay the loan through rate increases.

Work to replace Quincy’s lead water service line in progress

QUINCY (WGEM) - Work to replace lead water service lines continues to progress throughout the City of Quincy. The state has mandated the replacement of all lead service lines, the lines from individual homes to public water mains, by 2037. Public Works Director Jeffrey Conte said the city already has replaced more than 1,000 of these lines, with several thousand remaining. He spoke on this week’s issue of the WGEM digital program “City Desk.” “We’ve actually did last year close to 500 replacements.
