Charlotte, N.C. — When freshman Calvin Russell III ruptured his Achilles tendon in practice in late March, head coach Fran Brown said he hoped the receiver would be able to return in late October. During Thursday’s ACC Kickoff, Brown was even more emphatic that Russell would play this year. “He’ll be back this season,” Brown said. “I ain’t gonna pick a date. Then it’ll be holding me to the date. But I think he’ll be out there to play for us this year.
