Travel: Exploring the south of France by train
YOU don't have to fly everywhere! Bradford to Paris (via Eurostar) takes about seven hours. From there, we went to Montpellier, not far from the Spanish border, and used this delightful and quirky city as our base. Founded in 983, it was once France's second biggest city. After some decline in the middle ages, Montpellier is now one of the fastest growing. The city is built along a steep-sided ridge.

Connecticut's new AI law: The good, the bad and what still needs to be done | The Day
Connecticut lawmakers deserve credit. On May 1, the House voted 131–17 to pass Senate Bill 5, the Artificial Intelligence Responsibility and Transparency Act. The Senate had passed it 32–4 weeks earlier on a bipartisan vote, and it now moves to Gov. Ned Lamont’s desk with his support. In an era when bipartisan technology legislation has all but vanished, this is remarkable. Connecticut legislators have put the state on the map as serious about addressing the most impactful technology of this decade.
A message from John Furrier, co-founder of SiliconANGLE:
On April 7, 2026, Anthropic did something unprecedented in the history of artificial intelligence: The company announced that it had built its most capable model ever and would not be releasing it to the public. The model had not failed. In fact, it had performed so well, across such consequential domains, that Anthropic concluded the constraint infrastructure required to deploy it responsibly did not yet exist.
Travel: Exploring the spectacular landscapes of south China
IN 2009 I visited two of China’s most dramatic scenic landscapes: the Wonder Peaks and the Rice Terraces, both in Guangxi Province in the south of the country. And I had a personal expert guide. My daughter Alison had already spent five years in China, teaching English in upper schools, while simultaneously taking a degree in Mandarin. She was already fluent in speech, reading and writing. This enabled us to travel independently on local transport, and stay in cheaper accommodation.

My trip to Belarus capital - trapped in a Soviet past
BELARUS was probably not on many travellers’ bucket list, even before it permitted President Putin to use its territory (though not its soldiers) to invade Ukraine. In fact, Belarus is exactly what Putin wants Ukraine to become: a subservient neighbour ruled by a dictator kept in power through crushing dissent and increasingly rigged elections. Effectively, recreating the Greater Rus of centuries before: in the process establishing a buffer between Russia proper, and the perceived threat of NATO.
Seemingly 'friendly' Patriots-Bills argument at South Boston bar leads to alleged assault and missing tooth
As the Patriots-Chargers playoff game was getting underway on Sunday, Jan. 11, a seemingly friendly argument about the Patriots and Bills at a South Boston bar allegedly turned violent. Boston police shared photos of the suspect Monday, who they said was involved in the assault and battery with a dangerous weapon incident. The suspect was described as a white male with dark hair whos about 5-foot-9. The alleged victim reported the incident to police the following day.
Travel: European city is a hidden gem a short train ride from tourist crowds
NAMUR? here’s that? Never heard of it. Well, that’s not surprising. Situated in Belgium, half way between Brussels and Luxembourg, Namur is the city capital of the Wallonia region. Its origins go back before Roman times; an important staging-post on both east-west and north-south trade routes. It stands on the confluence of the Meuse and Sambre rivers. Namur suffered significant damage in both world wars, but now with a population just under 120,000, it is a delightful place to visit.
Caron’s Conference Diary: Lobsters and an MP barking “at the f***ing tide”
It’s 10 am on Sunday morning as I write this. I’ve already been to an 8am consultation session, of which more later. So far my Conference has been everything I’ve wanted it to be – a wonderful catch-up with friends, meeting lots of new people and playing shops at the stalls with the enthusiasm of a 5 year old in a room full of lollipops. I arrived from drizzly Scotland to the warm, sunny and temperate climes of the south coast on Friday morning.

Political violence and intimidation is not new, and it needs to end
I was about to go to bed last night when news started to filter through about shots being fired at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The initial pictures showing a bleeding Donald Trump being taken from the stage by the Secret Service agents who had courageously got between him and the bullets that were being sent his way were incredibly disturbing. Thankfully, he was ok, though he is bound to be shocked but two people died and two people are, at the time of writing, critically ill.

Solving Telecom Network Security Challenges with Defensics
The telecommunications industry has undergone tremendous changes in recent years. From the days when consumers could only make and receive voice calls on a landline to the broadband internet era in which people use data and stream videos on the go, telecom networks constitute an important backbone of the national economy. Telecom networks have evolved from 3G to 4G and 5G technologies.

Evaluating density-weighted connectivity of black bears (Ursus americanus) in Glacier National Park with spatial capture-recapture models
Improved understanding of wildlife population connectivity among protected area networks can support effective planning for the persistence of wildlife populations in the face of land use and climate change. Common approaches to estimating connectivity often rely on small samples of individuals without considering the spatial structure of populations, leading to limited understanding of how individual movement links to demography and population connectivity.
Securing Cloud-Native Apps: Synopsys' Top Gartner Score

Our security programs have to shift everywhere with that code to provide good security.

Fly-fishing for Crater Lake's 'fattening' trout an epic experience Original
John Waller Special to Statesman Journal I’ve been visiting Crater Lake my entire life, as this iconic national park is only a few hours’ drive from my hometown of Glide. Despite dozens of trips there, the first sight of that massive crater filled with a brilliant translucent blue always catches my breath. But it was only recently that I learned you could fish from its edges for trout that have been growing rapidly in size.

From diligence to integration: How software audits inform post-close M&A strategies | Synopsys
Software due diligence is an all-important aspect of any merger and acquisition (M&A) transaction, and in the tech M&A world, a target’s software assets are a significant part of the valuation. This due diligence process should identify a target company’s open source license obligations, application security and code quality risks, and the organization, processes, and practices that compose the software development life cycle.
Defensics extends fuzzing capabilities for IoT markets
Internet of Things (IoT) devices are becoming ubiquitous, with billions deployed in the world. And threat actors are constantly looking for vulnerabilities in them because, unlike traditional IT devices, once IoT devices with fixed firmware are deployed, it is often impossible to fix problems. That’s why it is critical to thoroughly test the security and resilience of IoT devices before deployment, using the same methods that hackers use.
Automate security: DevOps integrations for risk detection and remediation
One of the most critical aspects of software development is ensuring that the applications you create are secure and reliable. As the pace of development and deployment continues to increase, manual testing and security checks are no longer sufficient to keep up with the pace.
