NOPD divers, Coast Guard searching for Lake Pontchartrain drowning victim near LSU New Orleans

Dive crews with the New Orleans Police Department were searching Lake Pontchartrain Sunday evening after receiving a report of a drowning. NOPD responded to the 1800 block of Lakeshore Drive, near the Orleans Avenue Canal and LSU New Orleans, just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday to investigate a report of a person who went underwater and never emerged, spokesperson Jonathan Morris said.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill secured an arrest warrant Thursday against St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith related to a fight at a northshore restaurant last week. According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, Smith is being booked on three counts: second-degree battery and two counts of disturbing the peace. The second-degree battery count is a felony, which involves a person who "inflicts serious bodily injury" on another person.
