Five Keys to Saturday's Game
BAYLOR (1-1) vs. SAMFORD (0-2) By Jerry Hill Baylor Bear Insider FIX THE MISTAKES: In both the 38-24 season-opening loss to Auburn and last week's 48-45, double-overtime win at SMU, the Bears had some "ugly film" to watch and plenty of mistakes to fix. "The margin between winning and losing is so small," said senior safety and special teamer Michael Allen. "That game (against SMU) could have gone many different ways. But it's obviously a lot better to be on the winning side of that.
REUNITED . . . SORT OF
By Jerry Hill Baylor Bear Insider In a relationship that goes back at least three years, Baylor redshirt sophomore safety Tyler Turner said he "knows what to expect" from defensive coordinator and safeties coach Matt Powledge. "I kind of know who he is as a person, his family and where he comes from – his story, his background," Turner said.
WHEN OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS
By Jerry Hill Baylor Bear Insider Growing up in Stillwell, Kansas, Michael Allen remembers Christmas holiday trips when his family would drive to Dallas and then go through Waco on the way to San Antonio to visit his mom's side of the family. "We'd always drive by McLane Stadium," he said. "And as a kid, I would kind of look out and be like, 'What's that?''' Fast forward to Sept.
THE MORE, THE MERRIER
By Jerry Hill Baylor Bear Insider The more, the merrier. That's the attitude in Baylor's outside linebackers room, with head coach Dave Aranda implementing a "peso" package that will incorporate multiple Jack linebackers/edge rushers in the defense. "This may be biased, but I think the more Jacks that we can get on the field, the better," said 6-2, 252-pound sophomore Kyler Jordan, who made six starts last season. "Especially when it comes to rushing the passer or getting pressure.
MBB rolls past Colgate in first round
MEMPHIS, Tenn. Before Friday's game, coach Baylor unveiled its own NCAA Tournament bracket, with just one game: No. 3 seed Baylor vs. 14e-seeded Colgate. That was it, “just the next game,” freshman said . It's time for a new brace. Making the most three-pointers (16 of 30) since the calendar turned to 2024, the third-seeded Bears (24-10) cruised to a 92-67 win of 14e-seeded Colgate Raiders (25-10) Friday afternoon in an NCAA West Regional first-round game at FedEx Forum.
Money for nothing
For San Mateo County taxpayers and riders this would simply be money for nothing — meaning our money to BART for no benefit. Why is this being suggested now? BART, like many transit agencies, is facing serious financial issues due to a collapse in ridership during the pandemic which has persisted. As recently reported, BART projects operating deficits upwards of $300 million annually and growing after short term support funding runs out.

Accountability for the sake of democracy
Our local democracy in the city of San Mateo is strained and damaged. Accusations of insurrection regarding an otherwise democratic process in selecting a mayor and making an appointment to a vacant council seat do not reflect reality and in fact have poisoned the well. The debate over these fundamental decisions was democratic. Long and arduous yes, but that is the process sometimes. Equating robust debate with insurrection is both dangerous and chilling.

Understanding the True Value of Mounting Adhesives
Mounting adhesives, sometimes referred to as double-sided adhesives or double-sided mount film, were used extensively in the early days of digital imaging, but their use has waned as the availability of specialty adhesive-backed media has increased. However, this practice is by no means obsolete, with mounting adhesives still having plenty to offer the modern-day print business due to the fact they can be used across a wide range of applications. So, what is a mounting adhesive?

Opinion: When will Santa Clara, San Francisco counties pay up?
History buffs like to reference the familiar quote: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” As someone who has participated in past decisions that resulted in the unpaid debts owed to San Mateo County from San Francisco and Santa Clara, San Mateo must learn the lessons that the past 30 years of bad faith efforts taught us. The history here is clear and well-documented.
One Film Does Not Fit All
The term 'multi-purpose' sounds great. One product for different applications, helping your business keep costs low and stock keeping units (SKU) simple - what's not to like? However, in reality, that smart multi-functional product will be better for some jobs than others, in terms of appearance, performance, cost efficiency and longevity.

In reality, that smart multi-functional product is better for some jobs than others in terms of appearance, performance, cost efficiency, and longevity. It could work well for one application but perform poorly for others. This is especially important when choosing graphics media.
Your View: ‘Get up? Sir, I can’t breathe!’
The civil unrest in our nation is daunting and disturbing. I do not condone the unlawful response of some to the unlawful behavior of others. However, polite, yet dishonest, conversations that result in little or no systemic reform have failed. Jesus made the comfortable uncomfortable and the content discontented.
Will Facebook abandon Dumbarton traffic solution?
As our communities begin to reopen, the return of traffic will remind us that good public transit is a necessity that will advance much needed jobs and housing opportunities. To promote this goal, significant planning is already underway to create a new transit rail connection across the Bay on the Dumbarton Corridor between Redwood City and the cities of the East Bay.

By Jackie Speier, Jerry Hill, Kevin Mullin and Don Horsley Housing and health fit together like a hand in a glove. A 2018 review of housing and health in the journal “Health Affairs” discussed many links, including the following: • Low-income families with difficulty paying their rent or mortgage or their utility bills are less likely to have a usual source of medical care and more likely to postpone needed treatment than those who enjoy more-affordable housing.

So long, cedars
I read the letter about the person wanting to prevent our cedar trees from being cut down. Were they serious? I wonder if the author realizes that a full grown cedar drinks between 20 and 30 gallons of water per day, or so I’ve been told. kAm%96 >@C6 E96 EC66D 8C@H[ E96 =6DD H2E6C @FC C:G6C[ 4C66<D 2?5 DAC:?8D H:== 92G6] %9:D :D 2 9F86 562= 2D H2E6C 86ED :?4C62D:?8=J D42C46]k^Am kAm{F4<:=J[ x 5@ ?@E 92G6 4652C 76G6C[ 3FE D@ >2?J 96C6 5@j E92E’D 2?@E96C C62D@?

Ohio River Freeze
The winter of 1917-1918 was the worst winter on record. It all began with a ferocious blizzard that struck on December 9, 1917 that reportedly dropped sixteen inches of snow at Louisville in under fifteen hours. The wind was blowing at forty miles per hour, causing the snow to drift as high as six feet in Richmond. The temperature was freezing. For the three-month period of December through February, the temperature averaged around 28.6°F.

Jerry Hill, Bob Hertzberg and Adam Gray: California needs earthquake warning system
To live in California is to live in earthquake country. It is also to live in one of the most modern economies in the world - a place where advancing science and innovation are breeding technological wonders of all kind, from self-driving automobiles to the next generation of spacecraft. So it makes no sense that California is behind the curve in developing an early warning system for earthquakes that is already used in other countries, such as Japan.

Should I capitalize the word 'Web' in this sentence?
No, you should not. Even Sir Tim Berners-Lee does not: OED does say "usually with initial capital", and then goes on to say Originally written with a capital initial, web compounds are now increasingly written with a lower-case w.
Another View: SB 24 will be good for kids
In 1994, as mayor of San Mateo, I authored one of the state’s first anti-smoking ordinances. In 2012, my Assembly Bill 1301 was signed into law, requiring the state to suspend and revoke a store’s tobacco license if it repeatedly sells tobacco products to minors. This year, I’m authoring Senate Bill 24 to ensure that vapor shops and e-cigarette stores comply with California’s youth smoking-prevention laws.
