Gaza Protest Held At Court Square Saturday

Rain dripped and tears dropped Saturday at Court Square lawn. A protest calling for a ceasefire in Gaza started at 11:30 a.m. A line of demonstrators silently marched around Court Square with signs and posters calling for peace in Gaza and Israel. Approximately 50 protestors were present, despite the rain. Members of Peace Praxis, a local antiwar group, started out the demonstration with songs and speech. The keynote was given by Hasan Hamdan, who works with local refugees in Harrisonburg.

Senior, All-Women Cast Takes On ‘Steel Magnolias’ At Court Square Theater

In an interview, Karen Aspinwall’s speaking voice is bright and confident. The lead in an upcoming play, Aspinwall called out answers to questions perched on a purple settee onstage at Court Square Theater Monday. Aspinwall, of Harrisonburg, plays the main character Shelby in an upcoming production of the play “Steel Magnolias,” written by Robert Harling and directed by local theater aficionado Steve Winegard.
