Fairhaven's Homecoming Day Fair truly has something for everyone. Held on the last Saturday in June, the Homecoming Day Fair has roots stretching back to 1903. This year's celebration is Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sponsoring organization is the Fairhaven Improvement Association. Committee member Barbara Acksen stopped by Townsquare Sunday to talk about the history of the Homecoming Day Fair in Fairhaven and what's on tap for this year.

Any organization that survives for 100 years is worthy of celebration. Add the Greater New Bedford Garden Club to the list. As it begins its second century, the Garden Club's mission is to add more members. Garden Club President Pauline Santos stopped by Townsquare Sunday this week to discuss her time with the organization and the challenges it faces in the future. Santos has been a member of the Garden Club for 12 years, and took over as president during the COVID pandemic.

A New Bedford Legend is Stepping Down After Decades of Community Leadership

The President and CEO of Dennison Memorial Community Center in New Bedford is stepping down and retiring. Jim Mathes has been the face of New Bedford business and nonprofit groups for decades, from Junior Achievement to the Greater New Bedford Chamber of Commerce, Smiles Inc., and most recently, Dennison Memorial. Joe Neves will take over as President and CEO of Dennison, at least for now. He's also the Executive Director. Both Neves and Mathes visited Townsquare Sunday this week.
