Josh Foreman is a sixth-generation Mississippian and an eleventh-generation Southerner. He currently lives and writes in Bay St. Louis, Miss. From 2005 to 2014, he lived in Seoul, South Korea, where he wrote travel and food stories for Groove Korea, an English language magazine. From 2014 to 2017 he studied nonfiction writing at the University of New Hampshire. What was your first job as a journalist?

I started writing for Mississippi State's Reflector newspaper when I was in college, then interned at the Madison County Journal.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, my friend and I used to fill out expired checks with a typewriter as a joke. The checks would be for sexual services, mostly.

How is social media changing news?

I think people have written longform journalism off too quickly -- social media is not a replacement.
