Can Brazil lead the sustainable cattle revolution? The EUDR as a catalyst for change
At the end of 2025, a sweeping new regulation from the European Union will officially come into force: the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). It promises to reshape how agricultural commodities, including soy, cocoa, palm oil, and notably beef, are sourced globally. While its primary aim is to ensure that products sold in Europe are not linked to recent deforestation, its reach extends far beyond the EU’s borders.
Meet Upstate New York's Biggest Frogging Fan
WELL PAST MIDNIGHT, Tim Reed and Rodney Smith paddle down a skinny stretch of water in northern New York, to a spot where the high-cut riverbank transitions to flood plain. As Smith makes one last quiet push, gliding the yard-sale canoe toward a tangle of lily pads and skunk cabbage, Reed leans over the bow. The wide-set eyes of a big bullfrog glow in the beam of his headlamp, and just as the canoe reaches the jacklighted frog, Reed strikes. “Argh!” he yells through a splash of river water.
Sustainable beef: A roadmap to meet global market demands, from the Amazon
The Amazon is at a crossroads — and so is Brazil’s beef industry Brazil is the world’s largest beef exporter, but its Amazon-based supply chains are under growing international scrutiny. As the EU and other markets adopt stricter rules to keep deforestation-linked products off shelves, actors across Brazil’s beef value chain—from ranchers to slaughterhouses—are asking the same question: how do we meet rising demands for sustainability while keeping business running?
Preparing the Brazilian cattle sector for COP30
Brazilian beef sector: Balancing economy and environment The Brazilian cattle sector is a cornerstone of the country’s economy and a focal point of environmental concerns. As one of the largest beef producers and exporters in the world, Brazil’s cattle industry contributes significantly to GDP, employment, and global food security.
Produce more to deforest less: is intensification in beef production the way to reduce deforestation in the Amazon?
Climate change and the beef industry A growing global population, rising living standards in developing countries, increased urbanization, and westernization of diets across the globe are driving continued beef consumption. Beef is the third most consumed animal protein after chicken and pork, yet also represents a sector with significant environmental and social impacts.

Letter: Self-defeating reasoning
I read Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s statement that “I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate,” and agree it is the unadulterated truth. I must also state that her reasoning to vote against considering subpoenas, “I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed,” is one of the many reasons Congress did fail.

Valuing U.S. National Parks and Programs
Description This book provides the first comprehensive economic valuation of U.S. National Parks (including monuments, seashores, lakeshores, recreation areas, and historic sites) and National Park Service (NPS) programs. The book develops a comprehensive framework to calculate the economic value of protected areas, with particular application to the U.S. National Park Service.

In part, this is because it is hard to put a value on them.
Electric Cars — Pros and Cons of the Chevy Bolt EV and Tesla Model 3
By John Loomis; photo effect by Leif Podhajsky Driving up Interstate 95, my eyes dart about in a triangle — out the windshield, to the navigation system and to an electronic display counting down toward trouble. As the miles tick away, closing in on the point at which this orange hatchback will conk out, I feel escalating anxiety: Will I get where I’m going?

Meet the Faceless Men of the U.S. Defense
Tony Resch might be the forgotten man on the U.S. team coaching staff, and he’s entirely OK with that. After all, if you’re asking 23 of the world’s best players to put their egos aside in pursuit of a world championship, what better example will you find than the egoless assistant who would never brag or balk that he has been a part of 17 championship teams as a player and coach at the high school, professional and international levels?
Baseball's 100 Miles Per Hour Club - Men's Journal
It's one of those brilliant Florida mornings that baseball fans jones for during the last days of February's brutal slog. And what better fix for seasonal affective disorder than a dose of pure heat being doled out daily at the New York Yankees training complex in Tampa? Three of the game's most electric throwers — Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances, and Andrew Miller — are lined up on bullpen mounds, delivering fastballs that you hear rather than see.
Challenges and solutions for applying the travel cost demand model to geographically remote visitor destinations: A case study of bear viewing at Katmai National Park and Preserve
Remote and unique destinations present difficulties when attempting to construct traditional travel cost models to value recreation demand. The biggest limitation comes from the lack of variation in the dependent variable, defined as the number of trips taken over a set time frame. There are various approaches that can be used for overcoming limitations of the traditional travel cost model in the context of remote destinations.
Think Young, Play Hard: Brooks Koepka - Golf Digest
Brooks Koepka is chatting before the Open at Muirfield when he stops in mid-sentence. Phil Mickelson is on the television screen, and he's talking about...Brooks Koepka. "He's really a good, talented player," Mickelson says as Koepka (pronounced Kepp-ka) listens, rapt, after their practice round together. "His ball-striking is extremely solid," Mickelson continues. "He's a wonderful putter.
Americans think national parks are worth $92 billion: Why don’t we fund them accordingly?
One of the quirks of government accounting is that our nation’s most valuable assets — from aircraft carriers to interstate highways — don’t appear on any national balance sheet. In part this is because it is hard to put a value on them. How can we calculate the worth of the Washington Monument? And yet, without such a yardstick, it is hard to calibrate just how much money we should spend to maintain and replenish these precious assets over long periods of time.
MLB Slugger Josh Donaldson Loves The Game
Josh Donaldson's contract with the Toronto Blue Jays will pay him $17 million this year, so you might think he needs a few hundred bucks on the line for a golf match to quicken his heart rate. But that's not how Donaldson's usual game works. At Lake Forest Country Club in Daphne, Ala., where the All-Star third baseman spends his off-season, Donaldson, 31, plays with a selection of retirees who are sometimes 40 years his senior. The stakes are low. The laugh count is high.
My Shot: Jesper Parnevik
Ryder Cup at Valderrama, 1997. I'm playing with Ignacio Garrido against Tiger Woods and Justin Leonard. We're all square playing the 17th hole, a par 5, and the Americans are on in two. I'm playing our third from the fairway. I'm staring at a tough pin, water fronts the green, I've got a downhill lie, and I'm nervous as can be. I'm making a million practice swings, trying to find a swing to fit the shot.
A century ago, the PGA Championship got off to a tense, tight start - Golf Digest
On the eve of having crowned its first winner 100 years ago, the PGA Championship is looking rather spry for reaching such a venerable age. Through notorious August heat, a switch from match to stroke play in 1958, more heat, a never-ending need to validate its major status and still more heat, the PGA keeps striving each year to have one of the greatest fields of the season.
Watch Morgan Hoffmann cap off opening day of the new PGA Tour season with an albatross - Golf Digest
We're just one round into the new PGA Tour season, and we already have a hole-in-one -- courtesy of Jon Rahm -- and now we have an albatross, too. Morgan Hoffmann dunked his approach from 251 yards out on the par-5 18th hole at Silverado Resort's North course. It wasn't exactly 'nothing but net,' but we all know there aren't any style points on the scorecard. Hoffmann ended the day at 2-under par.
Training with D.J. - Golf Digest
Dustin Johnson is a freak—in a good way. Whether you hand him a golf club, bowling ball or jai alai cesta, it won't take him long to figure out how to use it, and use it well. We remind you of this because Johnson's typical fitness routine isn't necessarily something you should copy. Yep, it's a little freakish, too. The kind of workout only a world-class athlete like Johnson does.

Photographed on December 6, 2013 at Volcano Island in Orlando. I'LL TELL YOU the sensation of hitting a golf ball 427 yards: nothing. That last drive at Las Vegas Motor Speedway felt almost like a whiff. When you find the center of the clubface and you've got the club in the slot, there's no feedback, no vibration. Joe Miller, the guy I went up against in the finals, went first, and his best was 405. I had three balls to try to beat that, and on the first one, I felt nothing.
Cuba’s gorgeous, forgotten National Arts Schools on Roman Mars’ 99% Invisible.
On Jan. 3, 1961, Che Guevara suggested to Fidel Castro that they go play a round of golf. They drove out to what was then the ritziest, most elite country club in Havana. It was empty—almost all the members had fled during the revolution—and Castro and Guevara romped around the bucolic green acres while their official photographer snapped publicity shots. As they played, they realized that the grounds of the country club were spectacular, and they knew they had to do something with the property.
"Effects of Simulated Angler Capture and Live-Release Tournaments on W" by John H. Loomis, Harold L. Schramm Jr. et al.
We examined the effects of acclimation water temperature, live-well (LW) water temperature, and LW dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration on survival of adult Walleyes Sander vitreus subjected to simulated tournament conditions (angling, LW confinement, and weigh-in procedures) under controlled laboratory conditions. We tested three acclimation temperatures (12, 18, and 24◦C), and three LWtemperature differentials (Delta T=−4, 0, and +4◦C) were tested at each acclimation temperature.
