As the Moreno administration works to reshape New Orleans' financial outlook, a new state audit offers deeper insight into the city’s multimillion-dollar budget hole, while calling out longstanding concerns around the city’s firefighter pension system. New Orleans ended 2025 with $67 million in its general fund budget — $130 million less than it started with earlier last year, according to the annual audit released June 30.

Helena Moreno announces leadership changes as administration nears six-month mark

Mayor Helena Moreno is making shifts to her leadership team as her tenure nears its sixth-month mark, promoting two members of her communications staff. The city’s communications director, Isis Casanova, will instead become the New Orleans Health Department’s director of health and emergency outreach, Moreno said Friday. City Press Secretary Jonah Gilmore, a former WDSU-TV news anchor, will replace Casanova and lead the communications department.
