Jordan Young is a student journalist at American University. She is an investigative reporter for The Eagle and an occasional freelancer. She works mostly on the health beat and has reported on topics such as food safety, mental health, substance abuse and COVID-19. Previously, she has held positions with the CNN Political Unit and The Village Green. She currently is studying journalism and public health and will graduate in spring 2024.

Abstract It was recently shown that inhibition of polo-like kinase 4 (PLK4) induces synthetic lethality in cancers with chromosome 17q-encoded TRIM37 copy number gain due to cooperative regulation of centriole duplication and mitotic spindle nucleation. We show here that chromosome 17q/TRIM37 gain is a defining feature of high-risk neuroblastoma and renders patient-derived cell lines hypersensitive to the novel PLK4 inhibitor RP-1664.

Bus driver in deadly Stafford crash charged with involuntary manslaughter

The driver of a bus involved in a deadly crash in Stafford County has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, Virginia State Police said. Five people were killed when a bus crashed into multiple vehicles on I-95 at around 2:35 a.m. Friday about two miles south of the exit for Quantico. Forty-four people were also sent to area hospitals, three of whom had injuries authorities described as critical. The driver of the bus, 48-year-old Jing S.

Protester climbs down Douglass Bridge after nearly 5 days, faces charges

The protester who scaled D.C.'s Frederick Douglass Bridge on Friday afternoon and pitched a tent was off the bridge on Wednesday and now faces charges. The man, Guido Reichstadter, could be seen just after 9 a.m. using a ladder inside the bridge arch to get to a boom lift near the bridge, which he used to get back to the ground. All southbound and northbound traffic on the bridge was stopped for roughly 30 minutes while he climbed down.
