CT's first human case of West Nile virus found in Middlesex County, officials say

A Middlesex County resident tested positive for West Nile virus earlier this month — the first case in the state in 2026, officials say. The person who contracted the virus was a man in his 30s, the state Department of Public Health said in a news release Thursday. The department did not say in which town he lives. Officials said the man became ill during the first week of August with a West Nile virus infection, was hospitalized and since has recovered.

Waterbury officers arrest fugitive after three years on the run, police say

WATERBURY — Waterbury police on Wednesday arrested a fugitive who had been on the run for three years, an official said. Jegna Bey, a 31-year-old city man who also goes by Ronald Parker, was taken into custody on a fugitive warrant and also charged with interfering with police and assault on public safety personnel, Waterbury police Sgt. Joseph Morais said in a news release Thursday.

Suspect snatched gold chain from cashier at Wethersfield gas station, police say

WETHERSFIELD — Police in Wethersfield are investigating after they say a suspect ripped a gold necklace from a gas station cashier's neck Wednesday. Officers responded to the Valero gas station on the 900 block of Silas Deane Highway at about 9 p.m. for a report of a robbery, Wethersfield police said in a news release.
