Females do not avoid but prefer superparasitism in the parasitoid wasp Melittobia australica
Abstract To reduce competition over limited resources, organisms often avoid resources already used by others. In parasitoid insects, females are generally expected to avoid parasitizing hosts already parasitized by other females, called superparasitism, and this prediction has been broadly supported across numerous species.
Subgroup analysis of patients with Kawasaki Disease based on blood tests and cytokine profiles
Abstract We aimed to identify distinct disease patterns and improve the understanding of treatment responses in Kawasaki disease (KD). Patients were classified into subgroups using pre–intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) blood tests and cytokine profiles. We retrospectively analyzed 212 KD patients admitted between November 2008 and April 2015. Principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering used 20 variables including age, blood tests, and nine cytokines.
Hydrogen in the Earth core inferred from neutron imaging and diffraction
Abstract The density of the Earth’s core is lower than that of pure iron; this is considered to be caused by the presence of light elements in the core. Hydrogen is one of the most important light elements in the Earth’s core because of its high cosmochemical abundance and its nature as a siderophile element under high pressure. Thus, the hydrogen content in liquid iron under high pressure is required to constrain the chemical composition of the Earth’s core.

Bottom Copy Pronunciation in Japanese Passives
Ayuda Buscar en la ayuda Buscar en la ayuda Bottom Copy Pronunciation in Japanese Passives Autores: Jun Abe Localización: Studia linguistica: A journal of general linguistics, ISSN 0039-3193, Vol. 78, Nº 3, 2024, págs. 555-596 Idioma: inglés Enlaces Texto completo Resumen On the basis of Abe's (2016) proposal that in the case of an A-chain, any member can be the target for pronunciation, I argue that Japanese passives may have the bottom copies of the produced A-chains pronounced.
High Microsatellite but No Mitochondrial DNA Variation in an Invasive Japanese Mainland Population of the Parasitoid Wasp Melittobia sosui
1 Introduction How populations of species are established in novel habitat areas outside the typical distribution range of the species is a fundamental question in evolutionary ecology and conservation biology. The distributions of species are changing at accelerating rates due to natural processes as well as human activities (Pecl et al. 2017). Organisms naturally expand their distribution through climatic events such as typhoons and hurricanes.
High microsatellite but no mitochondrial DNA variation in an invasive Japanese mainland population of the parasitoid wasp Melittobia sosui
Abstract Theory predicts that bottleneck events reduce genetic diversity in invasive populations. The parasitoid wasp Melittobia sosui was only identified in the subtropical area of Japanese south islands and Taiwan, but recently found also in the temperate area of the Japanese mainland. The species may expand their distribution northward due to factors such as recent global warming.

A high‐temperature high‐pressure small‐angle neutron scattering cell for studying hydrothermal reactions in supercritical water
A high-temperature high-pressure cell equipped with a metallic window was developed for small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). The feasibility of a Ti alloy (Ti–6Al–4V) as a candidate window material was assessed, considering its mechanical strength and neutron characteristics. SANS experiments should be conducted using safe and reliable materials without risk of window damage or leakage of the activated samples due to window breakage.
Multitier mechanics control stromal adaptations in the swelling lymph node - Nature Immunology
Abstract Lymph nodes (LNs) comprise two main structural elements: fibroblastic reticular cells that form dedicated niches for immune cell interaction and capsular fibroblasts that build a shell around the organ. Immunological challenge causes LNs to increase more than tenfold in size within a few days. Here, we characterized the biomechanics of LN swelling on the cellular and organ scale.

The Dual Role of High Endothelial Venules in Cancer Progression versus Immunity
Highlights High endothelial venules (HEVs) are specialised blood vessels, found in secondary lymph nodes, where they play an important role in initiating and regulating immunity. Recent studies indicate that HEVs can also provide an exit route for tumour cell dissemination and the establishment of metastases. The dual roles of HEVs imply that they can both limit and accelerate progression of cancer.
Author Correction: Conformational rearrangements of the C1 ring in KaiC measure the timing of assembly with KaiB
Correction to: Scientific Reports https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-018-27131-8, published online 11 June 2018 Shin-ichi Koda was omitted from the author list in the original version of this Article. This has been corrected in the PDF and HTML versions of the Article, and in the accompanying Supplementary Information file. The Author Contributions section now reads: A.M. and S.A. designed the experiments.
