However, the concurrent changes in insulin sensitivity, substrate oxidation preference, and lipoprotein subclass profiles at the immediate postoperative period remain incompletely characterized. This prospective, self-controlled pre-post study recruited 41 patients with severe obesity undergoing LSG.
Gastrointestinal point-of-care ultrasound for enteral nutrition management in critically ill adults: a scoping review
Abstract Background: Gastrointestinal point-of-care ultrasound has been investigated as a non-invasive, bedside adjunct for gastrointestinal assessment and enteral-feeding decision-making in critical care; however, existing protocols and their outcome reporting remain fragmented. This scoping review mapped the existing evidence landscape on the use of gastrointestinal point-of-care ultrasound in the management of enteral nutrition in critically ill adults.
Perceived Gang Protection, Violent Victimization, and Gang Status Transition in Early Adolescence
ABSTRACT Gang violence accounts for approximately half of violent crime in the United States. While youth join gangs for protection, they often face an increased risk of violence. There is less research on how expected utility varies throughout the process of joining and leaving gangs. This violence paradox highlights the disillusion of perception vs. victimization in gang joining and desistance.
Neonatal-onset familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis type 2: a case report
Abstract Background: Familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis type 2 (FHL2) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder primarily caused by mutations in the perforin-1 (PRF1) gene, leading to immune system hyperactivation and multi-organ dysfunction. FHL2 typically presents in infancy, with neonatal onset being extremely rare and particularly difficult to recognize early due to substantial clinical overlap with sepsis.

GCCA-trans: a hybrid segmentation network with guided criss-cross attention for early-stage head and neck tumors in CT images
Abstract Accurate lesion segmentation in medical images is essential for disease assessment and treatment planning. Most head and neck tumors can be clinically cured when treated at an early stage, making early detection highly beneficial for guiding effective therapy. However, research on early-stage head and neck tumor segmentation remains limited due to the scarcity of dedicated datasets.
Circular RNA circSNRK regulates inflammatory processes and TXNIP expression by acting as a miR-128-3p sponge in age-related macular degeneration
Abstract Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is an ocular disease that causes visual impairment in older individuals, primarily due to degeneration of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). In this progressive disease, damaged RPE cells release pro-inflammatory factors into the extracellular space, leading to macrophage infiltration. However, the role of non-coding RNAs, including circular RNAs (circRNAs), in AMD remains largely unclear.
Dynamic biomass micro–nanofibre framework for entrapment and clearance of gastrointestinal microplastics Original
Abstract Microplastics (MPs) are infiltrating global food systems, where they disseminate systemically, posing unmet health risks as current strategies fail to prevent bioaccumulation. We have engineered an oral alginate–chitin micro–nanofibre framework (Alg-Ch) as a pH-responsive scavenger, which was formed via lyophilization-induced hydrogen bonding and physical entanglement between alginate microfibres and chitin nanofibrous sheets (1:10 ratio).
Self-organization of vascularized muscle from bovine embryonic stem cells
Abstract Cultured beef offers a promising alternative to traditional meat. While adult stem cells are commonly used as the cell source for cultured beef, their proliferation and differentiation capacities are limited. Current manufacturing processes for cultured beef steaks often require separate preparation of multiple cell types and their intricate assembly.

Bmi1 is a key effect molecule of p27-Shh signal pathway in mouse alveolar bone formation
Abstract Previous studies have suggested that Bmi1 is a positive regulator of osteoblast formation and osteogenesis, while p27 is a negative regulator. Mice lacking p27 display larger mandibles which accompanied with the upregulated Bmi1.
TRIM32-mediated ubiquitination of STING promotes glycolysis and tumor progression
Abstract The Warburg effect, a hallmark of metabolic reprogramming, drives tumor progression, but its upstream regulation remains unclear. Using hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) as a model, we identify TRIM32, an E3 ubiquitin ligase, as a potent activator of glycolysis that promotes malignancy. TRIM32 is upregulated in HCC tissues and cell lines, correlating with aggressive features and poor prognosis.
Childhood adversity and disadvantage in relation to incident disability and multimorbidity: prospective analyses of ELSA and two SHARE inception samples
Abstract Background: Childhood health adversity and socioeconomic disadvantage may shape late-life health, but evidence for incident disability and multimorbidity remains limited. Cross-cohort inference is complicated by non-equivalent measures of childhood experiences and differences in timing. We estimated cohort-specific prospective associations in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) and the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE).
Hypertrophic cardiomyocytes promote cardiac fibrosis through paracrine secretion of ketoisoleucine in pressure-overloaded hearts
Abstract Cardiac fibrosis is a critical pathological feature that drives pressure overload (PO)-induced heart failure (HF). This process involves a complex intercellular crosstalk between cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) and cardiomyocytes. Cardiomyocyte hypertrophy is a compensatory response to PO and undergoes metabolic reprogramming; however, the specific metabolite(s) transmitting the pro-fibrotic signals from hypertrophic cardiomyocytes to CFs remain largely unknown.
Drug-resistant bacterial infections in end-stage liver disease: immune imbalance and intervention advances
Abstract Patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) face a markedly elevated risk of infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) bacteria. This vulnerability worsens prognosis and severely limits therapeutic options. The underlying mechanisms extend beyond hepatic synthetic and detoxification failure to encompass a complex and multifaceted state of immune dysfunction.

A membrane-modulated chemoenzymatic dynamic kinetic resolution for the synthesis of chiral phthalidyl esters
Abstract Chemoenzymatic dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) offers a powerful bridge between chemocatalysis and biocatalysis for the preparation of chiral molecules. However, its broader application has been limited by the incompatibility between racemization and resolution catalysts, where mutual interference often compromises catalytic activity and/or enantioselectivity.
Hepatokine ORM2 suppresses pathological ferritinophagy to prevent acute tissue injury
Abstract Acute tissue injuries trigger rapid cellular damage, but cell-intrinsic protective programs attenuate pathology through regulatory axes. Here, we demonstrate that Orosomucoid 2 (ORM2), a hepatokine, is significantly upregulated during drug-induced acute liver injury. Knock out Orm2 exacerbates liver damage, while its overexpression provides protection, identifying ORM2 as an endogenous hepatoprotective factor during acute liver injury.
