S-atom dislocation-induced room-temperature ferroelectricity in two-dimensional α-MnS semiconductor
Abstract Room-temperature ferroelectricity in two-dimensional semiconductors has ignited enormous interests due to their potential applications in non-volatile memory and neuromorphic computing, which will trigger a revolution in next-generation electronics. Nonetheless, this fascinating ferroelectricity is rarely discovered in such materials with natural central symmetry, especially at atomically thin limit.
Advancing Plant Microbiome Research Through Host DNA Depletion Techniques
1 Introduction Plants are colonised by a wide variety of microorganisms—including bacteria, archaea, fungi, viruses and protists—that inhabit diverse niches such as the rhizosphere, endosphere and phyllosphere (Hardoim et al. 2015; Russ et al. 2023; Trivedi et al. 2020; Vorholt 2012). These plant-associated microbiomes form intricate networks of interactions with their hosts, contributing to nutrient acquisition, growth promotion, stress tolerance and defence against pathogens (Durán et al.

Ultrafast Unidirectional On‐Chip Heat Transfer
1 Introduction Manipulation of heat transfer at will has been of tremendous significance for efficient thermal management in electronic and energy conversion devices, realizing thermal conditions for both optimal performance and efficiency.[1-3] It is particularly critical in miniaturized and integrated optoelectronic devices, in which heat flux and power density increase many orders of magnitude inversely proportional to the device size.[4, 5] Fast and effective heat transfer approaches are...
Compact mode converters in thin-film lithium niobate integrated platforms
Mode converters, crucial elements within photonic integrated circuits (PICs) designed for multimode optical transmission and switching systems, present a challenge due to their bulky structures in thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) integrated platforms, which are incompatible with the compact and efficient nature desired for dense PICs. In this work, we propose TE1-TE0, TE2-TE0, and TE3-TE0 mode converters in shallowly etched TFLN, within small footprints.
OsALKBH9‐mediated m6A demethylation regulates tapetal PCD and pollen exine accumulation in rice
Introduction Rice (Oryza sativa) is a prominent crop globally and serves as a monocot model. The development of pollen in anthers is a highly regulated process, which involves the formation of male meiocytes, gametophytes and gametes (Zhang and Yang, 2014). Tapetum, the innermost layer of the anther wall, supports gametogenesis and undergoes programmed cell death (PCD) after meiosis (Zhang and Yang, 2014).
Morphological Innovation Drives Sperm Release in Bryophytes
Microscopy Analysis Antheridia were manually isolated from gametophore apexes as previously reported.[44] The isolated antheridia with stem were immobilized vertically on a 0.8% (w/v) agar plate overnight. For visualization of antheridium burst and sperm release, the antheridia were placed on a microscope slide with pure water and the images were immediately acquired on a microscope (Olympus BX53), equipped with an Olympus DP80 camera.
Tailoring coupled topological corner states in photonic crystals via symmetry breaking induced by defects
In this paper, we present an effective approach to tailor the optical properties of coupled corner states in photonic crystal (PhC) supercell arrays by symmetry breaking. Defects are strategically introduced into unit cells to break the in-plane C4v symmetry, and numerical simulations confirm the preservation of the band gap and two-dimensional Zak phases, in spite of the presence of defects.

Analog signal metasurface processor supporting mathematical operator reconfiguration
Electromagnetic wave analog computing is an effective method to overcome the bottleneck of electronic computing, which has attracted the attention of scientists. However, many spatial analog signal processing systems based on electromagnetic waves can only execute one unique mathematical operator and cannot provide multiple operators for users to choose arbitrarily.
Controlled Synthesis and Accurate Doping of Wafer‐Scale Two‐Dimensional Semiconducting Transition Metal Dichalcogenides
Abstract Two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDCs) possess atomically thin thickness, dangling-bond free surface, flexible band structure, and silicon-compatible feature, making them one of the most promising channels for constructing state-of-the-art field-effect transistors in the post-Moore's era.

Broadband phase shifter based on SiN-MoS2 integrated racetrack resonator
Abstract As the critical device of microwave photonics and optical communication, the low-loss and high-efficiency optical phase shifter has attracted intense attention in photonic integrated circuits. However, most of their applications are restricted to a particular band. Little is known about the characteristics of broadband. In this paper, an SiN-MoS2 integrated broadband racetrack phase shifter is demonstrated.
Collective topological corner modes in all-dielectric photonic crystal supercell arrays
Abstract In this Letter, we propose collective topological corner modes in all-dielectric photonic crystal (PhC) supercell arrays, where each supercell is a second-order topological insulator. We show that coupled multipole corner modes are embedded in surrounding bulk modes at the Γ point even without the band gap, and individual or superposed dipole corner modes are selectively excited with collective behaviors by incident plane waves.
Abstract Gradient-based optimization combined with the adjoint method has been demonstrated to be an efficient way to design a nano-structure with a vast number of degrees of freedom. However, most inverse-designed photonic devices are applied as linear photonic devices. Here, we demonstrate the nonlinear optical response in inverse-designed integrated splitters fabricated on a SiN platform. The splitting ratio is tunable under different incident powers.

Tunable multilayer-graphene-based broadband metamaterial selective absorber
Abstract We propose a tunable multilayer-graphene-based broadband metamaterial selective absorber using the finite-difference time domain. The simulation results reveal that the absorption spectra of the proposed metamaterial with the nano-cylinder and 30-layer graphene show high absorption (88.3%) in the range of 250–2300 nm, which covers the entire solar spectrum.
All-optical switch and logic gates based on hybrid silicon-Ge2Sb2Te5 metasurfaces
Abstract We numerically propose a hybrid metasurface (MS) to realize all-optical switch and logic gates in the shortwave infrared (SWIR) band. Such MS consists of one silicon rod and one Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST) rod pair. Utilizing the transition from an amorphous state to a crystalline state of GST, such MS can produce an electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) analogue with active control. Based on this, we realize all-optical switching at 1770 nm with a modulation depth of 84%.
Control of resonance mode using a fine-structured grating: toward a high resolving power filter
Abstract A band-stop filter with high resolving power is designed for mid-infrared spectroscopic sensing and imaging applications. By utilizing a truncated grating consisting of multiple gold nanowires in each unit cell of the periodic structure, compression of the stop bandwidth and improvement of the resonance extinction are realized simultaneously. It shows only a single stop band at ∼4.474μm with 15 dB extinction and >80% background transmission over a wide spectral range.

Abstract Independent manipulation of phase and polarization of optical fields is of great interest in various applications, including vector-field generation, optical tweezers, and nanolithography. The integration of phase and polarization manipulation on a single optical device may greatly simplify optical systems and eases optical alignment.
Complete chloroplast genome of seven Fritillaria species, variable DNA markers identification and phylogenetic relationships within the genus
Fritillaria spp. constitute important traditional Chinese medicinal plants. Xinjiang is one of two diversity hotspots in China in which eight Fritillaria species occur, two of which are endemic to the region. Furthermore, the phylogenetic relationships of Xinjiang Fritillaria species (including F. yuminensis) within the genus are unclear.
